Ruben is now going to counter preach Fred Phelps! Praise God!!
I got this in an email from Ruben:
Over the years I’ve worked with Fred Phelps as we bumped into each other during our travels. Once while I was arrested, Fred somehow heard from Topeka and called my home, he talked with Colleen, regarding getting me out of jail. I/we have had no burden to preach at sodomite funerals……since……EVER, I/we believe as our Lord said, “let the dead bury the dead.”
However over the past few years, we have heard and seen strange fire within the Fred camp. His daughter (Shirley Phelps-Roper) has a hold of the helm and seems to run the ship. Reports of cussing like a trucker have been confirmed. Preaching at our fallen soldiers funerals nationwide and thanking God for IED’s, is beyond mad. And now threatening to preach at the funeral of the Amish girls that were murdered at that Pennsylvania school, has moved street preachers to action.
We will now go out of our way and confront them. We will preach to them as we did to those that believe Paul Hill was a hero. At this point, I know of 40 men that will make time and preach against this group if ever in their state, to distant ourselves from them in public, as well as a good open rebuke as most know we can do.
We will be making banners geared just for them and send them out to unroll and confront them in public with a week. Any suggestions regarding banners, please submit and I/we will consider. For example: “Dead bury Dead” and verses with false teachers/prophets.

Excellent.
The idea that anybody would bring beef with the Amish, of ANYBODY, is insane. Unless, of course, Phelps considers them "fag enablers" or something nonsensical like that.

This is actually excellent to hear. It's -really really- good to see preachers trying to internally police the worst among them.

I actually tried to find the Phelps group back in June at the SBC Convention to preach against them. I couldn't find them, but WOTM Radio did...

Hey RevK, good to read you again. I haven't seen you on here for quite a while. Thanks Micah, I have been taking a break from MB altogether to tell you the truth. I think that I used to spend too much time on them...in my responses and everything. I still read and respond with little responses here and there, but rarely ever respond with long responses...at least not as much as I used to. God Bless Micah...

I think it would be great to bring attention to the fact that the WBC folks decided not to protest the Amish girls' funerals when they were offered an hour of air time on a local radio station in exchange for their protest. Busted!

It is odd to find myself in agreement when i see the christians here beign as stunend as I am by this Phelps crew. I have umnhealthy fantasties aboutt hings i would like to do to him and his faithful flock and thjis does not include loving them or praying for them. They could all die via an explosion from a leaky gasline while they are in their church singing their stupid hymns about God Hates America, land Of the Fags (Yeah,m this was a real recording from their church that was on their stupid webpage). .and I would break out tea and cake to celebrate.
I could care less about the gays either way as it is of no real cocnern to me, but we have heavy Amish communities in my neck of the woods in ohio and these people bother no one. They are peopel I would rather spend some time with any day of the week, even though they are christians, than say, the bulk of the people on the outside world. They are hoinest, hardworking, friendly and helpful people. They are the complete antithesis of Phelps and his crew. As for Phelps and his flock , they are a bunch of (explitives I could not get by with if I printed them) and they can all (more explitives).
I would like to meet phelps or his loudmouthed son alone in an alley someplace.

People need to stip turning the other cheek as far as Phelps goes. They need to start proitetsing at HIS church, protesting his protests and giving him some doses of his own medicine.
People like him never like nor can take of of what they give out.

Praise God! One of my concerns has been others associating any of our banners with WBC. We need to make it clear to people we preach to that we do not in any way support their group.

Well this is very pleasing to hear. This shooting happened only an hour from here. And Phelps was through this area before. It would go a long way if he was opposed and people would start to understand what is wrong with his teachings. As there are few Baptists up here and many think we're like him and his group.

Then it becomes YOUR duty to denounce this jackass and the fool's p[arade following him at every chance you get. A guy like this and his trained monkeys dancing to his music can do more damage to christianity in five minutes than people like me, abb or cervvy could do in five years and that includes me cranking out a dozen lowbudget films like Zealot or anything else for that matter.

"The Westboro Baptist 'Church' is apparently reading a different Bible than I do," Gramley said. Hear, hear. The AFA of PA has taken an important step by stating publicly that the group's tactics give true, Bible-believing Christians a bad name. And she's also right to put Westboro Baptist Church in a global context. www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061008/NEWS04/610080350 When zealotry, freedom collide October 08, 2006 Good for the American Family Association of Pennsylvania. This conservative, "pro-family" group spends much of its energy calling homosexuality a sin and objecting to society's growing recognition of gay rights. While the Pocono Record disagrees with these condemnations, we credit the AFA of PA for recognizing the harm in Christian zealotry, too. This week the group spoke out strongly against a Baptist church, likening its parishioners to terrorists. The AFA pointed out that, if Americans are seeking Muslim moderates to curb Islamic extremists, Christians should do the same with their own. The AFA directed its outrage at the Topeka, Kansas, Westboro Baptist Church, whose members have been traveling the United States and "protesting" at American GIs' funerals, alleging that God brought about the fallen soldiers' deaths as punishment for the nation's sins, most notably homosexuality. This week the Westboro church threatened to protest the funerals of five Amish girls who were slain on Monday in a bizarre school shooting in Lancaster County. The protest would go forward unless church members were given air time to share their view: that Gov. Ed Rendell committed "blasphemous sins" against the church in a recent television interview. AFA of PA President Diane Gramley said such demands put the Westboro church in the same league as terrorists. We won't go that far. To our knowledge, the Westboro parishioners, if you can call them that, have not threatened violence. But they represent a sick mentality, conflating their "protests" with the will of God. How do fallen American soldiers deserve such contemptuous treatment? How do slain Amish schoolgirls, raised in a devout and unworldly society, deserve treatment as a religious and political football by extremists? "The Westboro Baptist 'Church' is apparently reading a different Bible than I do," Gramley said. Hear, hear. The AFA of PA has taken an important step by stating publicly that the group's tactics give true, Bible-believing Christians a bad name. And she's also right to put Westboro Baptist Church in a global context. No religious group should use its doctrine to threaten, intimidate or harm others. That goes not only for countries where religious strife exists as a daily, dangerous fact of life. It goes for the United States, too. Otherwise, what kind of freedom do we stand for?

Heh. Never thought the day would come when I had to take a shot in honor of a conservative, "pro-family" group, but here it is. Then again, since it's tonight the shot has to be of NyQuil, since our good friend Influenza has kicked me squah in the...well, you know

WE WERE
PREDESTINED
TO REBUKE YOU
That is my favorite one.
So a hyper-Calvinist is one who believes that everything is predestined?
In that case, I guess they were predestined to be hyper-Calvinists. Just as I was predestined to be an Arminian.

No, all calvinists believe in predestination.
Hyper-Calvinists believe it is wrong to proselytize and that only Calvinists are Christians. Fred Phelps and his ilk believe that it's wrong to pray for the lost, it's wrong to witness to the lost, etc. They believe they have the right to say that they KNOW when a person has "sinned away their day of grace". They also consider classical Calvinists, and all who are influenced by Arminianism at all, to be hellbound.
They are probably the best example of hyper-Calvinism out there.
