Biblethumper,
PS: Are you the dad of the two brothers? Rob and Jon?
You indeed have been illuminated.
By the way I too have a goatee.
Let's see if some of our non-divisive brethren will condemn us for not having smooth baby skinned chins.

There is a greater issue in all this that we must not lose. Multiple versions have created doubt on whether any of the Word of God can be trusted. Fighting among the Brothers on this only adds to the mess.
I got saved and used a NKJV for the first few years. I then found many books on the use of the "received text" and changed to the KJ, which I now use exclusively. The problem I most have with many other versions is the use of the "Alexandrian" texts. This was an area of gnostics. The Bible says nothing good comes out of that area. All Paul's missionary trips and letters were sent to the Byzantine area. Rather than just making an updated version using the same words. like Ray Comfort does in his Comfortable KJ, the writers of the new versions knew that BIG MONEY could be made.
The newer versions in English have caused confusion, and infighting, and I reject them mostly for these reasons.
Regardless of what version you use, you have to admit that for the love of the lost, we Christians should all be using the same Bible.

jackjackson,
Well said. I couldn't have put it better myself.
When I got saved I used the NIV. I couldn't understand why there were so many different versions and why the church I was attending discouraged me from using the KJV. So, as a 'good Berean' I began to study the version issue diligently (and for you new version users, without any preconceptions), I soon found that the KJ Bible was God's preserved word.

Amen; I also used the NIV, as well as a few paraphrases... as a matter of fact, I used a paraphrase in prison (where I was saved) and noted a difference in text from the NASB I was also using.
I wrote the publisher and asked why the difference; they claimed that they "believe it was well translated".
That made me raise an eyebrow.
I was newly saved, in jail and no one told me about the Bible version debate; I saw it myself, independantly from ANYONE, except the Illunination of the Spirit of God.
After studying extensively for a period of 18 months, I cannot use any other version but the KJ; I feel I would be sinning against Light, and that I refuse to do, regardless of the debates and arguments in favour of the modern versions.
God's Word is clear on the issue; I cannot violate what the Spirit of God has led me to believe concerning His Perfect and Preserved Word.
Amen.

Not sure how fair that statement is (though the rest of the post is thought provoking). Using that logic, would you be willing to use the NLT and the NLT only if all Christians came together and voted on the best translation to use?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say AV, Jon and Doc might have a difficult time agreeing to that ;D
