Only if you want to, I don't wanna force you to be nice to me. No, I was too heavy handed. I get frustrated on some the the "trains of thought" on here. Much of it without substance--I'm not saying that's your case. It's more of a reaction to all of it, not really directed to you. Sorry.

Morluna,
Make up your mind. Your political correctness has made you quite the hypocrite. Are you a racist calling rap "the black man's music"? If you really are the feminist you claim to be you should be apalled at rap music with the way it degrades women and calls them w*****. Are you saying that all black men degrade women?
Don't try to be pro rap and feminist at the same time. You should be standing up and condemning rap. Since you claim it is the black man's music you should be condemning black men.

This is an implicitly racist statement. To imply this is exclusively a "black man's" music is to separate them as a "class" and to see them something other than a standard human. This isn't an issue of a "black man", but just a man. Why is it important to disclose a persons race? And you could even suggest the black man would need to be rescued from this injustice by you, the great WHITE knight. Do you think black people need you to defend their copyrights and intellectual property? Are these poor people incapable in doing so for themselves? Do you not see the silliness of your logic? Your statement implies these poor black folk can't take care of themselves, unless they have someone like you, white, to defend them. If you knew and embraced that God made Man in His image, then you'd see there's no difference in the races. Although you purport to convince us how enlightened you are with your statement, I really don't think you'd know "enlightenment" even if it whacked you on your behind. All people in Christ, irrespective of their races, are my brothers and sisters. Any Christian would recognize this fact. Um, if you knew the first thing about me, you would know that I do not believe in race as anything more than a social construct. Are you so blind that you missed the point of what I just said? Apparently so. My entire point is that it pisses me off when white people want to take the culture of black America and make it their own, or worse... make fun of it... but they have no black friends. It pisses me off when white people claim to be all open minded and not care about race, but all their friends are white and from the same socio-economic status as them. These type people claim to have all these great inclusive ideals but in practice they are racist asshats. I wasn't trying to seperate "black" music and "white" music, that's stupid. What I mean is that there are types of music that have historically been brought up and created by African American culture. There were the old spirituals and slave songs... then jazz.. blues... rap and hip hop... Did you know that in the early 1900's whenever a black singer wrote a song, some white guy would do a cover of it so all the white kids could buy his cd instead of the black guy's? Don't you find that offensive? This is the same deal... only more embarrassing and stupid. How dare you accuse me of racism... ugh. Good grief, take a look at my sig... seriously. I mean honestly... do I have to continue to explain myself? I would think that that one image would scream "ALL INCLUSIVE LOVE FOR ANY AND EVERYONE!!!" but I guess not. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH THE ONLY RAP YOU HAVE EVER HEARD IS THE SH*T ON THE RADIO!!!! Tell me... am I wrong? If you had ever listened to any REAL hip hop, you would know that it is not all about b*tches and bootie shakin'. Here are some artists to check out: - Common - Talib Kweli - Erykah Badu - Mos Def - J-Live - Lauryn Hill - Dead Prez - The Roots I would suggest Common especially. He has a great song called "Faithful" about falling in love and being committed. I do not listen to mainstream rap and hip hop like they play on the radio mostly. It's crap. Like all mainstream music, in my opinion. And as I said in my response to Wkufan, it's just the simple fact that the black community fostered the hip hop and rap culture, for the most part. I'm not saying only black people can listen to that music... obviously. I'm what most people would call "white" and I love hip hop. I'm just saying that it angers me when dumb white people make fun of rap songs in spoofs like that, and it's a video of about 15 white people with one token black guy in there for good measure... not a very diverse group of people.. it just shows that they limit themselves to friends who are mostly just like them, and that rubs me the wrong way. Don't you dare call me a hypocrite, you don't know me. I am sick and tired of the judgemental nature of this board.

You don't have to explain anything. You made your statement and it's the same garbage spouted in the '60s when all these wonderful little middle classed white kids were going to save those poor and incapable black folk--and stroke their little egos how enlightened and humanitarian they were. Because blacks couldn't do for themselves. Hahahah...yeah, right. "Their" (as you like to separate them as different) culture is my culture and my culture is "theirs". They're Americans.
So? And what if they do? Why is this your business? I propose you focus on your own situation rather than your assumptions of society. If white people are adopting a "separate culture" then I see this as more accepting to people of color. If these people are hypocrites, why is this any skin off your nose? I think it's because your convinced how righteous you are and want to demonstrate, again, how enlightened you are.
Try being the only white family who were members of the NAACP in a KY county that was 95% white in the 1960's. Then you might know what in the world you're talking about. Yeah, I accuse you of being immature and falsely righteous. When you start seeing the world in the eyes of God, you'll know there's no differences at all with any of us.
And for the record, I wasn't calling you a racist. The statement has racists overtones, whether you intended it or not. Honestly, I don't think you are.

I didn't like it. It was making a mockery of the Bible...it was also based on a song no Christian ought to be listening to.

And for the record, I wasn't calling you a racist. The statement has racists overtones, whether you intended it or not. Honestly, I don't think you are. Hm, I think a quote from Tim Wise is in order... "White supremacy has done its job when the white man/woman is oblivious to or refuses to see the existance of race and the societal differences of race." By saying that all American culture is one culture so we shouldn't worry about the differences of African American or European American culture, you are proving this point. I do not believe there SHOULD be racial differences, and I do not believe in the importance or even existence of a thing called race, but I acknowledge that the society we live in DOES, so I can't ignore it. Like or not, race makes a difference, simply because the society we live in believes in it. I am not seperate "white" and "black" people, society is. I'm just bothered that groups of all white people want to make fun of rap music, which has historically been a culturally African American genre of music, when they don't know any black people or take the music seriously. Okay, maybe I need an example... at my college a lot of the frats have so-called "ghetto parties" where they dress "thug" and generally poke fun of the predominantly African American "project" culture... but ALL the kids at these parties are white. Am I the only one who is bothered by this? Really now. And please don't call me self-righteous.. If had read any of my posts I think you would agree I am one of the least self-righteous people on this board... and please explain to me what part of what I said insinuated this: "You made your statement and it's the same garbage spouted in the '60s when all these wonderful little middle classed white kids were going to save those poor and incapable black folk--and stroke their little egos how enlightened and humanitarian they were. Because blacks couldn't do for themselves." I really think I was saying the EXACT opposite. Honestly, are you stupid or something? Can you not read? WTF?! You just said "seperate but equal" !!!!! WOW. And you say I'M racist.... (I don't care what you say, that's exactly what you called me.)

You are truly sublime. This is exactly what you said whining about "culture". No, I never said you were racist. Perhaps you need a remedial reading class yourself. I just said you didn't know what you were talking about. And I still stand by that.
Would you like me to start referring you as stupid as welll? Actually I can do much better than that. Look little girl, I would send you to your corner crying clutching your teddy bear. But I won't because because you are truly full of yourself and this proves nothing to me. However, I am probably about to step out of the bounds that would be displeasing to my Father--as this is doing nothing to bring you to salvation. So, I'll leave you to your fantasy on this subject.
Have a nice day.

No. I'm sorry Wkufan... you said "seperate but equal" is okay. You're debating privelages have been revoked. Nothing you say after that statement can be taken seriously. Well that may have how you interpreted, but that's not what I mean and I think you know that. I'll give you that point, at least. It's not concerning to me how seriously you take any statement I make. My idea of "race" hinges on my understanding of God. The only race I think that's recognizable or important is the human race. That we all were created in His image. I don't see any difference in people from that perspective. In WW2, pilots used to show their "kills" by painting the insignia of the enemy pilot on the outside of their thingypits. These were trophies. To me, people who purposely count how many people have "friends" of "different races" and brag about this is offensive to me. It's tantamount of publicly demonstrating their "trophies" to demonstrate how "righteous, morally upright and enlightened" they are. It's a joke and it turns my stomach because it's disingenuous. This, in my opinion, is an insult to God as I previously explained. We now return you to your regularly scheduled broadcast...

Okay. Maybe I wasn't clear before. I do not advocate having "token" friends of whatever race. My point is... in a group of 15 or 20 friends... If you live in a somewhat diverse area (about 50% white/50% black, some Latino... Asian.. Native... Middle Eastern... whatever) and you have 0 non-white people in that group... there's something wrong. Whether you intentionally set out to only have white friends or not, the situation is racist. You can say, "well that's just the way it is" but why? This is what I'm talking about. Another example is segregated churches. Again, maybe not necessarily the intent of the individuals there... but it's racist just the same. It bothers me when white people get together and mock a musical culture that is largely in close ties with African American culture. It is not a way of appreciating it.. it is a mockery. And I hate that. Not the same concept as having token ethnic friends... I HOPE you can see that after this explanation.
Oh and um... "Perhaps you need a remedial reading class yourself."
PS: I'm an English major.

Morluna I am going to call Jesse Jackson on you for discrimination.
