now, that daisy has taken this several posts off topic let us continue our debate over verses/passages in the bible that are controversial:
Burn Nonbelievers: "Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him."
this is an interesting passage because it is a scenario, rather than an actual event. however, it is an explanation of what must be done by the men of god. rabble is gossip, and no one should take gossip to heart unless it be proven otherwise. this is what the scenario is laying out. however, the passage makes no reference to each individual citizen, but only if it is found out that pagan worship is indeed happening within the city. so, the jews are instructed to attack the entire city, burn the people and livestock, to the ground.
why are people of different faiths a threat to the lord, if he is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent? they are merely living a life of choice, and choosing to reject the lord, has its consequences AT DEATH, perhaps, but why must they be destroyed? a city is filled with men, women, children, and newborn. why is it all evil? how is this justifiable, and how is this an act of mercy, if god is willingly sending all these folks to hell?

I take it you believe that the Old Testament Law or any Law which brings the knowledge of Sin, is to be followed to achieve Grace...... God does not wish for those foks to go to Hell, that is why He sent his Son.

yes, i know the difference between old testament and new testament law. however, the actions of the old/new testament god are so diverse, and contradictory, that its impossible to consider it the same god. this is my argument. this is the ultimate fallacy of the bible, and the men who created god.

Men did not create God. Yes, I see your point...Jesus was foretold in the Old Testament, and Jesus spoke of the Old Testament. Abraham was saved because of his belief.
