I am teaching a small group of elementary school kids at a church camp with my "church". Today was the first day, and I taught them Paul's conversion story as the emphasis was change (they wanted us to teach about David Robinson as it is a wicked "MegaSports Camp" but I chose to teach about Paul and relate it to them). They asked me over and over again for Bibles, I asked the Pastors wife if I could give them each a bible and she said "no!".
However God kept saying, give them Bibles. So at the end of the day they asked me again if they could have bibles and I broke down and gave them each a Bible. The Pastors wife found out about it and called me on the phone earlier today and literally screamed at me for around ten minutes that I am to bow to her authority. I said I am to obey God rather than man, and remembered the "whatsoever He saith unto you do it". She called me every name you could think of that isnt a swear word.
She came an inch from telling me to not come back, but I am going back tommorrow. I am positive that I was in the right, but regardless, take comfort when rebuked by the "clergy" because they may or may not be Christians.

What?! Did she say why she didn't want them to have Bibles? That was weird!

God Bless you Evan.. that is so strange for a Pastors wife to say that.. May God move mightily because of your obedience to him. Blessings come through obedience.

satan has a two fold tactic:
1- To TWIST the Word
2- To DESTORY the Word
Sounds like the pastor's wife needs to be Born Again.

I disagree that you shouldn't be able to hand out bibles, if it was a church camp, there's no reason at all that you shouldn't be able to freely give them away. However, I do think you may have a responsiblity to the "church" to do what is asked of you, especially when you volunteer. Though I don't know the motive behind her desicion, she may have had her reasons. And I don't know about you, but in my Christian walk I've never heard God say a word, did you really hear God or did you just have a compulsion? I think maybe the best course of action would have been to give your email address out or set up a contact to give out bibles on your own time...
Not trying to bag on you, just offering my $.02...

What?! Did she say why she didn't want them to have Bibles? That was weird! Thats really weird. I would be curious as to why she didn't want to give them Bibles also.

What did the Pastor have to say about that?
By the way...teaching children is such a blessed thing. God bless you for your efforts and obedience!

She didnt want me to do it because she said, "they might get jealous" but to that I say praise God because then they might pick up the word and read it because "he has a bible.
Today the pastor gave me a nice lecture about being full of myself and prideful. I agonized for some time in prayer about that, but God only showed me to watch my motives in writing articles. They reason that I should bow to authority, but like I said on Brother Jeds board, "I will bow to GODLY authority".

Amen. God is the final authority. When we stand before God on judgement it is him we are answerable to. Godly authority would have said yes to bibles surely? Its not that we should fear man but fear God and when we do often we will be persecuted for it even within the so called church! Praying for you! How is giving out the bible full of pride and self? We are to humble ourselves before God. My heart goes out to you.

Rob Dog,
If you cannot discern the leading of the Spirit of God well enough to say, "God told me" then I humbly ask that you seek Him for the guidance. Sure it may not be a voice, but when I was delivered from smoking, God SAID, "IF you dont quit smoking I will cast you from my presence". I quit smoking. God will only tolerate sin in a believers life long enough to give you a chance to repent. Then obey Jesus, "GO and sin no more".

There is a place for submission to Godly authority, but I don't see how your church is godly based on what I have read from your posts.
There was a time in my life (a long period of about 14 years), when I thought I should submit to authority in cold, compromised, worldly, prayerless, sinning, fleshly, carnal, disobedient churches.
Alot of this was done because I heard teaching about submitting to authority even if it isn't godly (John Bevere in Under Cover). I am not judging what Bevere is teaching and saying it is wrong, because there is a place for what he is teaching, but I think he goes too far. I think he is making his experience a doctrine.
I am through with playing games with churches that are not serious. I have to face God and give an account. I am sad to say but I think most churches are just social clubs, bless me parties, businesses, etc. After 14 years of that foolishness I have had enough.
I still attend a local church fairly regularly because my wife works there, and some people are godly and very supportive of us, but for the most part it is a social club. I don't waste much time or energy supporting over there and "try to make a difference" like I did for years because you can only do so much when people refuse truth for so long.

teach a kid that god is real because you say so, and then he will convince himself that his imaginary friend is real too. kids cannot grasp the idea or nature of a supernatural being, and therefore should be left innocent until they can make their own decisions.
