Went down to our regular places this past Saturday. First stop was the alternative bar, and there was already a bunch of people standing outside. Was a little nervous but it always goes away after you get started. Its just the flesh telling you "go home". As Ray says, you'll go out shuffling your feet and come home clicking your heels.
And so it was. As soon as I started, immediately the chorus of sinners cried out: Stop judging me, what's wrong with playing pool, etc. And they were very angry, especially since I warned them that God was angry with them.
Now we set up directly across the street from this bar. The street is one way and its downtown so there is no where for the sound to escape to, seeing that there are no gaps between the buildings. Thus, the sound must reverberate like a 25c bouncy ball back and forth. And doubtless, their flimsy glass doors do not protect them from preaching! Sound carries through glass!
Anyway, there were immediately at least 4 or 5 people, full of rage, who were within arms reach of me, some of whom were screaming cuss words. There were two females that were particularly wild. The three non preachers immediately took them aside and handled their objections and the preaching continued. Most of the others stood on the bar side of the street, pretending to be taking a smoke break, but I know they were listening.
They seem to get more violent every time we go out. When we first went out, they were a lot more toned down.
Eventually they all retreated back into their bar, and the street was just as quiet as when we got there.
Wherefore we ventured down the street and set up outside a club that is a little busier, but that serves a totally different demographic.
These people usually just ignore us or listen quietly, but as soon as the preacher started, they started telling him to shut up repeatedly.
A young lady came over to us. She kept telling me that she respected us and all of this and that God sure was going to grant us into heaven. I told her to respect Jesus. I told her that no work and no street preaching would ever merit God's favor. The grace of God alone saves a sinner from hell, for all have sinned and deserve hell. I asked her if the club was the way of life or the way of death, and she admitted that it was the way of death. I told her that I really didn't want her to go back inside. She said, I know I shouldn't. I pleaded with her not to go back inside, but told her I wasn't going to make her stay outside, because God is not going to physically block her from going in. Now He certainly will rain down conviction, but sinners must repent on their own.
And she went back inside with her boyfriend.
Some of the people that said shut up stayed outside 45 minutes and listened.
The security guard came out and talked to us, and said he wanted to make sure we were all right! He even told us that if things get rough, there are policemen at this and that intersection.
There were about 4 or 5 cars that would repeatedly speed down the road and run through the red lights at full speed. How lawless these are! If they don't even respect red lights, how perilous is their condition before God! It was grievious to see how lawless these young men are.
