Doc H,
Good Morning.
You said "So some one who does not believe in speaking in unknown tongues is NOT saved RIGHT?
Because if he was then why were you witnessing to him?"
Response...
I never said or implied anything of the kind. Sounds like you are trying to set up a straw man arguement here. The word witness in the 1828 Websters dictionary #2 States " To attest; to give testimony to; to testify to something." To testify the truth of being filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of praying in unknown tongues to a person neither suggests nor implies he is not saved. In fact that experience is only for people who ARE saved. You can still be saved and not have the baptism in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of praying in unknown tongues, but you are missing out on something God wants you to have.
You said "Really.
I suggest you read the passage very carefully before you make such a wild accusation."
Response... On the contrary, there is nothing wild about it. In the word of God it says blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is, referring to the Holy Ghost as an evil spirit. Praying in unknown tongues comes from the Holy Ghost. ( re-read the article, I dont want to re-type proof texts over and over again) So refering to something the Holy Ghost does as evil, I would call blasphemy. Hence your very own comments..."I disagree with your article on tongues.
This is charismatic babble. Taken from the Tower of Babel." and "I take offence that you would suggest that I, who have NEVER spoken in tongues and do not have a desire to seek after that which is unscriptural ie babbling in an unknown tongue, am a SECOND CLASS IF NOT EVEN LOWER THAN YOU CHRISTIAN because I have not been Baptized in/by the Holy Ghost as evidenced by BABBLING."
Response... you have stated that tongues are from babylon or ie: from the devil. I will let your own words speak for themselves.
You said""Religious spirit"
? Please define.
I don't sense any good fruit of love in your reply either.
Jesus and the Apostles rebuked false teaching, and that is all I am doing."
Response... I said I THINK you have a religious spirit. I dont know if you actually have one. But anyway i would define a religious spirit as ie: evil spirit; a demon. I know I probably need to reiterate that Im not saying you are not saved. I dont know that.
But back to a religious spirit. Enter the pharisee, knows Gods word and the law backwards and forwards. Lives a srict life, trying to keep all of Gods law, tithes mint annise and cummin, but has ommitted the weightier matters of the law. Crucified the very word of God incarnate. The letter killeth but the Spirit giveth life. Very religious claiming to be godly and yet oppossing God the whole time.
Next point...
You said..."I don't sense any good fruit of love in your reply either.
Jesus and the Apostles rebuked false teaching, and that is all I am doing."
Response...There is quite a difference between an honest truthfull rebuke and your " rebuke" which was dripping with sarcasm. (Babbling from babylon ect). Lets be reasonable here, any objective reader could see that.
Calling the baptism in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of praying tin tongues false teaching is another slur at the Holy Ghost in my opinion. You have provided not one scripture to substantiate your claim. Not one. That article was almost complete scripture.
You said "Not at all. No if a brother is in error then it is my God given duty to correct him/her.
Response...Once someone has been rebuked and they dont receive it, in my opinion I am under no further obligation. I know the scriptures about rebuking someone- go yourself, then two or three, then before the whole church. Also if ye see a brother overtaken in a falt restore such an one in the spirit of meekness. But on a blog here it is a little different situation.
You said"Really, so all of those great preachers of old (Edwards, Whitefield, Spurgeon, Wesley, Moody, Sunday) and the hundreds today who are preaching the word of God faithfully and are living holy lives, and are CESSASIONISTS are ALL A BUNCH OF BIBLE ILLITERATES-is that what you are saying?
Response... Praise, Praise, Praise Jesus for those great men of God in history. We sure can learn alot from them. But, they are not holy writ they are not the rule of faith and conduct. Look at Peter his shadow healed people, and yet Paul rebuked him when he saw that he walked not uprightly according to the gospel. Good, godly, holy men of God are gifts from God. Yes indeed! BUT they are still fallible men. Paul said follow me AS I follow Christ. Judge everything by Gods holy word. Not by frail shells of clay.
You said..."CESSASIONISTS are ALL A BUNCH OF BIBLE ILLITERATES-is that what you are saying?"
Response... Thanks for correcting my misspelling of cessasionists in all CAPS, I got it. Those are your words not mine. But there is some reason, and I dont know why, you cessasionists reject the power of God which is FIRMLY backed by the word of God. (Refer to the article again for scriptual references).
You said"Where did I say that tongues were not spoken in Acts 2, 10 or 19 or that these were from Babylon?
No my friend I am refering to unknown tongues.
Those in the upper room spoke KNOWN LANGUAGES "the word of God is plain on this matter".
What language do you speak/pray in?"
Response... You said so in responding to the article. Again re-read the article AND 1 Cor 14 for unknown tongues. Paul say he that prays in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men but unto God for no man understandeth him. In the word of God there is more than one kind of praying in tongues.
I pray in english and in unknown tongues and as Paul says I will pray with the spirit and with the understanding also. He also so covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
You said "So now you are questioning my salvation?
Are you saying that speaking in an unknown tongue is evidence of whether some one is saved or not?"
Response... I dont know if you are truly saved or not, I do not know you.
Again I neither implied nor suggested anything of the kind. Another swipe at the strawman argument? Im assuming so.
You said "I simply responded to the article on your website which you promoted on this thread."
Response...If you didnt like the article so much you should not have read it. But Im glad you did. We ALL promote something, lets get real here. There are multitudes of websites promoted here. I make no apology for it. Be honest, you are not some neutral force on this site here. If you ever become the moderator on this site then you may decide what is allowable. But for now its an open board to discuss doctrine.
You said "Here's something for you to chew on.
Did Jesus ever speak or pray in unknown tongues?"
Response... these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpants; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
John 14:6 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
Im sincerely sorry if you didnt sense any love in my former post. I love you with the love of the Lord in Jesus name.
Thank You and Godbless.
Joe
