Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? Jer 23:29
Proceeded to a favorite intersection downtown just before people were getting out of work. Preached about 45 minutes I guess. Several people gazed and stared. Many laughed. Paul said that believers would be a "gazingstock" to the world. Very few people stopped to listen, and those only at a distance.
At one point a security guard came and pulled right up next to me on the side of the street and stayed there a while with his door open. I suppose he was trying to intimidate me. Last time I believe, he did the same thing.
Preached from Nahum 1, that God will not at all acquit the wicked. Demonstrated their guilt before God.
Even downtown we don't have hundreds of people walking down the sidewalk like a big city. Still I suppose at least 200 pedestrians heard not to mention the vehicle traffic. One young man drove by at least twice.
One man took a picture of me with his cell phone. When we first started open airs, I thought this was great, since we usually have at least one scripture sign. Whoever gets the picture emailed to them sees a scripture.
(People are so suspicious these days... If you are wearing a scripture sign, it really disarms them so that they will often take a tract.)
But I realized, this man would only take a picture of a rare, unusual thing. The very fact that he took a picture is illustrative.... that there is virtually no public ministry.... ideally there would be so much that people wouldn't walk by looking shocked. As long as he is taking pictures, I am not getting out on the streets enough.
The downtown Business people are generally hard as a rock and proud. Kept hammering them with the Law. Came back with Nahum. "God is jealous. The LORD revengeth and is furious.... and he reserveth wrath for his enemies."
