My history professor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary recently said in a lecture of his that during the 7 times George Whitefield visited the American Colonies to go on his preaching tours, it is estimated that at least 80% of the population heard him preach open-air at least once.

Besides royalty, George Whitefield was the first ever American Celebrety. Every American of his day knew his name.
Whitefield also was the first to start an American charity, as well as the first in the Holy Club to come to salvation, and also to start open-air preaching.
Whitefield contributed a great deal to the world as we know it.

I have a book about Whitefield by J.P. Gledstone called "George Whitefield: Supreme Among Preachers". It is about 350 pages. I think it is pretty good but I don't know what to compare it to because I haven't read many books on Whitefield. It is published by Ambassador.

If the book is published by Ambassador then it should be pretty good. Our church Bible College is named after Whitefield. Most of you though would not agree with Whitefields theology though. He was Calvinistic
