Well, the weekend went great. We started off on Friday in Syracuse, NY and headed on the road with my mom, dad, and my friend Jerry. It was nearly a five hour drive with a few stops on the way.
At one of our first stops, a highway rest area with a Burger King, we started to turn the place upside down by me starting off with handing a million dollar bill to a bored service desk employee. We engaged in a little conversation and she really liked the tract. She soon had customers, so I stepped aside. My dad was getting a quick bite to eat at the BK, so came along side while he was ordering and engaged the other employees in conversation and showed them the pink and blue tracts. They loved it and began showing their fellow employees. When they gave me that sort of, "Who are you?" look, I thought it necessary to give them a few more interesting tracts and do some sleight of hand for them. I finally got them all a smart card and they all were taking the test, concentrating hard on counting to 15. I them went into the gospel with them all as they failed the test. The most engaging person was a young manager. Ibegan taking him through the whole counsel of God as his employees all listened. Cusomers would come and go and get an earfull in the process. It was almost comical, it was like preaching as I had quite a captive audience of hungry patrons including a couple of police officers. One of whom rudely butted in to the conversation to get the mangers attension so he could get his change back. I think a raw nerve was touched with that guy. After going through everything I knew, I wrapped it up with that guy and off we went.
We arrived in Toronto around dinner time at our friends Mary Ann and Angus Smith's missionary house. They prepared dinner for us and we ended the night sharing testimonies around the living room. The next day after breakfast we headed down to Yonge and Dundas Street via the subway. Angus engaged a young girl on the subway in coversation and it turned out to be a great one 2 one. She had lots of questions and was very receptive. Once downtown we hooked up with Greg Gordon from Sermon Index, Steve Bainbridge, and later Rick Earle and his crew from Trenton. Soon, quite a few others joined us. We had nearly 17 people total come out.
We just did straight preaching for quite a while and were able to get small crowds by engaging people. There were people with signs handing out literature on some movie that was coming out. They were in white chemical suits with banners that said on one side "CLONES ARE PEOPL TOO" and on the other "UNCOVER THE TRUTH". I like that, 'uncover the truth" and so we did. We had a nice springboard for the gospel and also Christmas was an easy topic to bring up.
After some difficulty in geting a crowd a together, I resorted to giving away money for trivia. I only had a few dollars, so I had to make it count. It worked well and I was able to stir up some good hecklers which held a crowd for close to an hour. They really loved the old, "muslims, hindus, buddhists... are ALL wrong!" One guy in the crowd told me to shout that one really loud one more time... so I did. That produced some great questions on relative truth, authority of the Bible, and the superiority of the Gospel of Jesus Christ over any othe religion or false god. It was great, it reminded me of a campus. I can recall one person's response when I was probing about evolution. I asked if it were true, then what were you before you were human? Someone shouted, "We were chimpanzees!" So I snapped back, "Hey, speak for yourself" which got a laugh out of the crowd. Steve got up to preach after me and went head to head with my first heckler. We finally wrapped it up and passed out tracts and then rotated different people to preach. Some people got up for the first time in the open air. It was a blessed day and we finished it off by getting together for dinner back at the house. Before bed we all watched a great Mark Cahill video, "Light in a Dark World" of him speaking at a campus group of some sort. The next day we went to church and said our goodbyes, looking forward to going back to Toronto yet again.
I only got a few pictures, as well as some video. Hopefully I will have some more soon.
