The pastor preached on this Sunday at church. I really needed this because often times the work we do in the secular world seems so vain but there are rewards.
The Need for Rest and The Responsibility For Work
Genesis 2:1-3 (King James Version)
1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Four Things to Remember Regarding Our Work:
10For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.---This is not worship or glorifying to the Lord.
There are 2 life categories-Sacred and Secular
#1 Our work is from the Lord
#2 Our day to day work equals service and worship to the Lord
#3 We can serve the Lord no matter where we work or where our job is.
#4 Our perspective regarding our work will effect our performance at work.
We are the temple so the temple goes with us (I LIKE THIS PART! ):
1 Corinthians 6:19
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
Ephesians 2:10 (King James Version)
10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Matthew 5:16 (King James Version)
16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
God cares about what we do for a living and how we do what we do.
Danial had to work in a pagan environment but because of Danials hard work God gave him favor.
Daniel 6:20 (King James Version)
20And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
In the lions den King Darious saw he was a godly man. They tried to entrap Danial but Danial had an excellent spirit.They could not find anything wrong with Danial so they decided to find fault with his God, so Danial was persecuted for serving his God which is a great honor.
Jeremiah 29:4-7 (King James Version)
4Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;
5Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;
6Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.
7And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.
