Been extremely busy and hard pressed to find time to sit down and type.
Had several great days as a preacher friend was in town, which culminated in a very memorable New Years's Eve. Many good hecklers.
Last Tuesday, we were downtown at 5pm, and a man came across the street. No microphone, megaphone or cup, but the voice of the everlasting gospel message reverberated up and down the streets even amidst cold, rain and wind. I actually couldn't believe how well my voice carried. He walked right up to me and stared me right in the face. (But I was looking down on him because I was elevated)
Him:I can't get any work done with all this hollering and yelling. If you don't stop, I'll call the police.
Me: Fair enough.
He waits to cross the street.
Me: Sir if you call the police, you still must be born again.
Him: I'm a Christian. But I work.
Me:( I showed him my tie.) I work too and I preach as well.
Him: Yelling and screaming is driving people away.
And he walked away.
I wanted to say a lot of things to him in retrospect but most of it would have been in the flesh. It is amazing that he would take 10 or 15 minutes to walk down to the ground floor and tell me off, and a self proclaimed Christian at that!
"Is it more important for you to stay late at the office or to warn people about hell?" I wish I would have said this.
We stayed about 10 minutes, fully expecting the police at any minute. But they never came. We then found a bus stop where people actually listen. Honestly I really don't like dealing with business men. Typically they are rock hard and proud. The poor and the homeless will (almost) always take gospel tracts. But the Bible still says Go ye and preach the gospel to EVERY creature. Mk 16:15
Mr. Wesley on field preaching: "I find no great increase in the work of God without it."
