Went downtown at lunchtime, partly to see a preacher I had heard about. Apparently, a certain preacher goes downtown in Mobile 4 times a week (every day except Wed) to "cry aloud and spare not" Isaiah 58:1
Amazingly he was not there.
There was a park there which was "gathered in of every kind" Mt 13:47-8,
young, old, rich, poor, black, white.
We actually felt kind of nervous, for my friend had never done an open air in his "Jerusalem". And yet we must start where we are. How can I confidently go to another country to do something i can't do here? Acts 1:8
I decided that my text should be Gen 1:1. I derided darwinism and other things, trying to incite some response. Told them that 3 witnesses would leave them without excuse: Creation, conscience and the Scriptures. Amazingly, the people stayed sitting on all of the benches, and neither left nor did they heckle or even ask questions. I guess that they are used to the gospel there. It was about 20 minutes I believe. It was great to go to another new state and city to preach.
I should like to get a push pin map of the country and indicate where we have preached the gospel. And I STRONGLY recommend every one go to the store and get a world and country map and put them in your house. It is very easy to get caught up in the cares of life and actually foolishly think that the world revolves around my city or your city. Every time I look at the maps, it reminds me of the Great Commission, and how much needs to be done, and how great God's wrath is, and how great God's love is for the world.
We know that we are of the truth and the whole world lieth in wickedness. 1 John 5:19
