Government Center: After work I drove to the police station downtown to try to get a permit to preach at the Ultra techno concert on Saturday. I knew the concert was at Bicentennial Park and the police did not let us near the entrance the week before, so I figured if I had a permit they could not make us leave. I had gotten a permit for the Judge Alito protest back in January and we had great favor with the police.
They refused to give me a permit saying that it would take too long to process by the next day.
I was only a few blocks away from the metro rail Government Center where I have preached before, so I decided to redeem the time and quickly walked over there and began preaching in front of the stairs where everyone enters and leaves the metro rail. I preached here from about 5:25 PM to 6:05 PM. There were many people passing by, and many people sitting at the tables behind me. Several sat behind me and listened for long periods of time. I had no real hecklers. This area of town is very different as it is downtown. The people are usually in the lower socioeconomic class.
As I was preaching I saw one of the guys I was in jail with. He was one of the guys I prayed with inside the cell. His facial features are identical to Mike Tyson so there was no mistaking him. I waved and he waved back and smiled.
There was another young African American man who waved at me while I was preaching and sat listening for the remainder of the message. Afterwards I walked over to him and began witnessing to him some. After a while I recognized him as a young man I had witnessed to a year ago at the other end of town when I was preaching at a public bus stop. He remembered the conversation we had.
Interestingly, this same day, when I arrived home, Elizabeth told me the Christian inmate of Mexican descent who befriended me in jail and was also part of the prayer circle we had, called Elizabeth at the church to talk to me. He was testifying of how much the prayer was a blessing to him, he was doing well in his walk with God, was out of jail, and God had answered many of the prayers we had prayed in our prayer circle in the jail. May God be praised!
