I just finished reading Life In The Son, by Robert Shank. www.amazon.com/Life-Son-Robert-Shank/dp/1556610912/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1206482236&sr=8-1Originally published in 1961, the book is considered by many to be the best book on the issue of "once saved always saved". It is an intelligent, fair, and unemotional piece. He really gets into the Greek, taking tenses and moods into consideration. The book is all about viewing the key scriptures often used in support of OSAS in context! Aside from it being a thorough and scholarly study on the doctrine of perseverance, it is a spiritually challenging read about what it truly means to be a Christ follower. He wrote a second book called Elect In The Son, about the doctrine of election, but I have yet to read it.

Jesse,
If you haven't read Elect in the Son, you do not know what your missing out on. Once you read it, I am confident you will. It is one of the greatest challenges to the 4 points of Calvinism (minus perseverance of the saints) in print.

So I hear as well, swordsmith. I've got it sitting on my shelf, waiting to be read.

It is one of the greatest challenges to the 4 points of Calvinism (minus perseverance of the saints) in print. So, it does a great job of challenging T, U, L, and I? Sounds good. Might have to look into it. As far as P is concerned, I don't think a book could be more exhaustive then Dan Corner's book...

Let us know what you think about it when you are done with it brother. It might be a good one to add to the library... If it deals with the 4 points of Calvinism (minus perseverance), as swordsmith says it does, then Shank has dealt well with refuting TULIP, as perseverance is the focus of the entire book, Life In The Son (which I reviewed above). I will post reviews (though probably brief) of any relevant books that I read.

I have both Life in the Son and Elect in the Son. I've read through Life in the Son (and used it quite a bit when trying to convince Rev K of conditional security ). As I understand it Elect in the Son is the classical work on class election. That is, the church is elected and when you are part of the church you are one of the elect. I'm sure it's done much better than I have represented it here but I think that's the gist of it. Steve
