My wife has very severe morning sickness (there's some medical term for it, I don't know) - except it's all day! Please pray for her, as it is becoming very discouraging for her and she feels naseous and weak all the time. It's a struggle for her to not lose her appetite even when she knows she needs to eat for the baby's sake. LauRen works in the executive office of a ministry and it's been causing some stress for her.
The Lord has called me to full-time ministry, please pray with me that full time financial support comes in.
Thanks!

Jeff,
Allie just got over this same problem. You or LauRen are free to email her. I'll PM you with her email addy.
Please know that I'm in prayer for LauRen, and you (it's hard on the dads, too). I had morningnoonandnight sickness for the first trimester, then I felt GREAT! (same for Allie)

It is of no help to tell you that despite its prevalence, its cause is still a mystery. Several theories abound. However, treating the cause is not an option, but treating the symptoms is. It is important to eliminate anxiety. At this point, do not worry about your wife’s nutritional intake. What will stay down, is what should be eaten. Your wife should find those foods, however few they may be, that she can tolerate, and focus on those. Find out the strategies that work for eating, while minimizing the vomiting and nausea. The following are a few tips – I hope some of these help. Always keep a little something in your stomach. Hunger seems to heighten the nausea, and then eating to appease the hunger exaggerates it. This means eating a small amount about every two hours. Limit intake of sweet foods, which may enhance nausea. Include foods that have a concentrated caloric and nutrient density in order to maximize intake in a small volume. Avoid fatty or greasy foods. They take longer to digest Drink beverages separate from eating foods. Keep dry, complex carbohydrates around to nibble on, especially before getting up in the morning. Some women find that low sugar, carbonated beverages help. Try soda water mixed with a little juice. Drink slowly, a few sips at a time. Drink ginger ale or ginger tea, or nibble on ginger snaps. Researchers who have studied ginger have found it to work as well, or better than, some pharmaceuticals in fighting motion sickness and morning sickness. Be sure to drink in order to avoid dehydration. Keep in touch with your doctor in order to avoid any complications that may arise as a result of the vomiting or lack of eating. Try wearing an acupressure wrist band - the type worn by boaters to avoid seasickness. Ask your doctor about a vitamin B6 supplement. This has been found effective in women with severe morning sickness. Find which foods you can tolerate, the times at which you can best eat, and then go with that. For now try not worry that you are living on plain rice and dry cornflakes. You can help by offering support and sympathy. Take over the jobs that are apt to heighten her nausea, such as cooking the meals, feeding the cat, grocery shopping or cleaning the bathroom. Help her to avoid fatigue, as that can make it worse. Encourage her to get as much rest as possible. That might mean taking a nap when she gets home from work, or getting some extra sleep in the morning. I hope she finds some relief after the first trimester is over.

Unfortunately, there is no one tried and true method that will relieve everyone's case of morning sickness. The only way to find what works for you is by trial and error. Below you will find ideas which you can try:
Try taking your prenatal vitamins later in the day.
Vitamin B6 - 50 mg. daily. Vitamin B6 has been shown to help with pregnancy induced nausea. There are also products available now which contain therapeutic doses of Vitamin B6. One is B-Natal TheraPops are cherry flavored lollipops which have been shown to reduce pregnancy morning sickness. Another Vitamin B-6 enriched product is called Morning Sickness Magic. Morning Sickness Magic is a herbal remedy containing Ginger, Vitamin B-6, Red Raspberry Leaf and Folic Acid.
Ginger in capsules form 250 mg. three times daily can be beneficial. Ginger has long been associated with alleviating nausea. You can also get the benefit of using ginger by chewing on crystallized ginger or sucking on ginger hard candies.
Avoid warm places as heat can increase the nausea feelings.
Take naps during the day (but not right after eating). Tiredness plays a big part in morning sickness.
Get enough sleep at night.
Get out of bed slowly in the morning.
Try eating plain crackers or dry cereal before you get out of bed in the morning.
Open windows or turn on exhaust fans when cooking and after meals.
Cooking in the microwave usually produces less odors.
Silly as it sounds, carry a handkerchief with a few drops of a non nausea causing essential oil (lemon for example) in it and breath through it if you can't get away from the smell that is bothering you.
Avoid greasy or spicy foods as they often cause nausea or heartburn.
Eat what you want when you want it. Your cravings will not lead you the wrong way.
Have frequent protein snacks. (Low fat meats and seafood, nuts, eggs and beans are high protein.)
Eat smaller meals every two hours or so.
Eating something salty before a meal can help you "make it through" a meal.
Do not drink fluids with your meals.
Non caffeinated teas like peppermint and ginger can help came nausea.
Drink small amounts of fluids regularly though out the day to avoid dehydration.
Do not skip meals if you can help it.
Avoid spicy and fried food - both eating and smelling it can increase your nausea.
Cold food may have less nausea inducing smells associated with them.
Doctor Prescribed Medications for Morning Sickness Relief If your morning sickness is severe enough, your doctor may prescribe medication that will offer you morning sickness relief. If you have morning sickness where you are unable to keep food or water down for any length of time, PLEASE talk to your doctor to see what can be done. Extensive weight loss / dehydration can be harmful to both mom and baby. Your doctor will be able to evaluate your situation and health profile and decide which medication will be most helpful in giving you morning sickness relief. The medications prescribed are administered in three different ways depending on the severity of the morning sickness and the medication: orally, intravenously, and in suppository format. For an extensive listing of the medications which can be prescribed for severe morning sickness relief, please visit Hyperemesis.org.

Geekforgod....tons of great advice!
Jeff, how's she doing??
BTW, we just found out today that our daughter and SIL (Alexandra and Michael Sei Davis) are having a BOY!!! I had the honor of being with her for the sonogram...God is so gracious, and we praise Him for blessing this young couple with a child.

She's still the same. During thanksgiving she seemed to be doing a ton better, but now it's back to bed. I'm stuck between a rock and a hardplace...While I hate leaving her alone, if I come physically close to her it makes her nauseous. :'-(
She has actually had to leave her job because whenever she comes into the office she's throwing up every 30 minutes or every hour. So, I'm in overdrive trying to gather in support for us since I'm full time in ministry. Also we have a decision to make regarding the continuation of our insurance we had when she worked at the ministry, except it's not provided by them anymore.
Our life has been go-go-go since we've been married that Ren hasn't even had a chance to change her name officially yet!!!
I'm standing on the word of God!
"...come boldly before the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and grace to help in a time of need." Amen!!!

Couple things brother.
Look into these programs regarding insurance.
COBRA is a federal law that says you continue your insurance coverage after you have left an employer for whatever reason
FMLA(Family Medical Leave Act) an employer can not fire you or force you to resign if you get sick, they also have to continue insurance coverage.
Look into these tow programs.
Also, Medicare might be a good option. Also when the baby is born the State of Texas may have a program for him or her.
As of right now I would pray. God made the body of a women to be able to take alot during a pregnancy.

FMLA only applies if you've been employed for a year. And the 12 weeks they give you of leave is unpaid. It would only apply to my wife when the baby is born (July - which would be her one year mark working)...But LauRen was planning on leaving work permanetly after the baby was born anyway, so FMLA wouldn't do much good then...it WOULD do good NOW...but it doesn't work for her now. :-( That's the "System" for ya.
...and we're not being denied insurance...we just have to make the decision if we want to continue this coverage or not...and figure out what we can and can't afford.

Jeffrey, I would suggest continuing your medical coverage if you have it. Often times it is very challenging to get good terms on medical insurance if you have a wife who is currently pregnant, as the company foresees large payouts in the very near future. I am certainly no expert and there might be someone here who has more experience with medical insurance than I do, but generally these companies can be pretty cutthroat and I would be very leery of giving up coverage "in the hand," especially as your wife has some definite and foreseeable medical expenses onthe near horizon. (and July is a good month for babies...I was born in July, and look how great I turned out )

Jeffrey, I don't know if this can be of help. Have you heard of Medishare? It is a Christian health share plan, not insurance. You can look them up online.

Well we know the Lord is in control, trust in his Love and Mercy and it will all work. I personally know how the insurance thing can work for or against you. I am dealing with it now. We just had our first child in July.
It May be wise and/or the Lord's will to drop the insurance and have the baby with a midwife or at a birthing center. I believe both of those only cost a few thousand. If that is the case I am sure we can get that bill taken care of.
Praying
Joe

LauRen was checked into th hospital yesterday because bood tests results showed almost undetectable thyroid levels. So far so good. They said it's most likely just the pregnancy hormoones that are giving this funny report, but they are keeping a close eye on her. The mom's thyroid is important in the baby's brain development and other things as well.
we're stayig in the hospital again tonight so they can observe her and get her some more IV nutrients. She'll be seeing a dietician so we can determine the best diet she can keep down.
thank you for your prayers.

My wife is out of the hospital. Having her hooked up to an IV did wonders for her. She was able to hold down everything she ate! She still has to keep an appointment with the Endrochronologist (the doctor who has been analyzing the whole thyroid thing) in January...and she has an appointment with her OB later in December.
The night before her last night I decided to spend the night at home so I could clean it up and make it all nice for LauRen's return...only to arrive at the house with Jesse to discover I had left my keys 40 minutes away with Ren at the hospital...Itried everything to get into that house, including crawling around in the rafters, getting covered in insulation! Blah! So Jesse was gracious enough to let me stay with him and Krista.
Well, now Ren's home! Feeling a bit better, but her stomach still hurts and she's thrown up twice...but thank God only twice. Her throat hurts alot and she (and I) are getting frustrated.
We have a kitty who is pretty old (17 in fact)...and when the mood suits him, he'll pee on the carpet! So...our living room smells kind of bad...which is what we think is souring Ren's stomach. Thank God our room isn't bad at all.
Any suggestions on what gets cat smell out of a carpet (not just covers it up)?
I'm thinking of having LauRen spend the weekend with a friend while I deep clean the house (and get the cat fitted with diapers haha).
Thank you for your prayers and suggestions. God bless.
Jeff

Try mixing white vinegar with water, half and half, and spray it over the area where the cat unrinated. It should take away the smell.

Use a black light to find places where it urinated. Seriously it really works. The pee glows and then you can clean up every spot of it. My kitty had that problem for years. On the bright side, you do get used to the smell after awhile

I know that I've gotten used to the smell...but Ren's smeller is hyper sensitive now that she's pregnant.
Hah. I'm subsiting on Ramen noodles and sandwhiches because if I cook anything, it turns Ren's stomach!

Rent a carpet cleaner and do the whole floor (about 20.00 at Wal Mart) Kind of confuses the animals as they have no point of reference for their normal spot. Along with the cleaner, if you add just about 1/4 of a cup of bleach to a full load of water it will help to kill any germs in the carpet too. Just be careful not to use too much or you will get some discoloration on your carpet.
Animal lovers may want to kill me here, but if the cat is untrainable, get rid of it now. Can't have the kitty wetting on the floor when you have a baby crawling around there too.

J.A. Treat the stains you can see under black light with Oxy-Clean then shampoo the whole carpet. You may think about getting rid of the cat (even if only temporarily) since pregnant women should not be around cats. There's a danger of your wife getting toxoplasmosis (found in cat feces, possibly tracked through the house from litterbox). It's very dangerous. God bless you.
