I need some prayer/advice for a decision.
For the last 2 years I have worked at a local high school as the "lab manager." This is something like a computer help desk position. I work just a few weeks more than students go to school, so I get lots of time off. I don't make much but the time off is great. I am suppose to have my contract back to them by Aug 1st.
A few days ago I received a call asking me if I would be interested in a job as an IT manager for an auto group. This position sounds like a great position. I believe my workplace would be closer to my home. They thought my resume looks like someone that they are interested in. I also will be making over double the amount that I am now. For me to be hired, I have to have a phone interview with the local dealership and a phone interview with the "tech base" in New Jersey. Then if that goes well they want to fly my into NJ and have a face to face interview.
My dilemma is that if I pursue the IT manager position, I will have to notify the high school I will not be returning. That's fine if I actually get the IT manager position. If I don't then I will be jobless and have to find anything I can ASAP whether it is in the field I've studied or not.
I would appreciate any prayers or advice.
Thanks!
Josh

Josh, sometimes making these decisions can be tricky. I would advise you to consider your motivation for wanting the other job. See if it will add to or take away from your ministry opportunities. As someone with a fulltime 50 hr a week job, mortgage, 4 kids etc...I can say that less can certainly be more. I will pray for you and your decision

Lord, show Josh what Your Will is in this situation... may Your Spirit direct his steps in all of this.
In Jesus Name,
Amen.

Well, after some consideration and prayer, I've decided to pursue the IT manager position. I've talked to several different people and every one of them have given me the same advice. Pro 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety. I'm confident it will work out for the good. I believe He is preparing me for something. Even if that something ends up teaching me how to cook hamburgers at a fast food place.

I misunderstood the interview process. Rather than I flying out to meet him, he will be flying here to meet me.

I have some very comforting news. The High School doesn't want to lose me unless I decide to leave, so they are willing to wait until I know about the IT Manager position. I'm thankful the Lord led me to hold off on signing the contract for the High School! Now it seems that whether I get the IT Manager position or not, I will have a job.

It has been over 2 weeks since the company called and asked if I was interested in the position. I still haven't had an interview. So, I will be going back to the HS which means I will have less hours, but more free time. I have just enrolled in a Greek class, so that is how I will be filling my time.
Thank you everyone who prayed.

Josh, whatever happens, just know it's the Lord! I just took a step down from a job because I wanted less responsibility so I could concentrate on serving the Lord and taking care of my family.More money usually means more responsibility and more stress.I will continue to keep you in prayer and I trust God that it will all work out for good! Here's a great video by David Wilkerson: "God Opens Doors and God Closes Doors"---I'm a firm believer in that! www.davidwilkerson.org/sermons/video.php#video_sermons
