If you guys think of it, I'd like some prayer on the situation in my area. Nothing major, it would just be a little better if some things changed.
1. That I would have someone who can come out with me while I preach. I've been out on the streets by myself more times that I can count- just like many of you. As you all know, it's so much better to have someone with you even if they are doing nothing more than just standing around. There is a holiness pentecostal church that comes out fairly regular but they aren't able to come out all the time. The guy that was coming out with me for a long time hasn't been out in close to 6 months. I think he is going to come out this weekend though. Pray that he would get some fire under him and get back out there!
2. There is also a Mennonite-type of group that comes out on Fridays. They don't believe the holiness Pentecostals are really Christians since they speak in tongues, don't demand that the women ware a physical head covering, don't demand that women keep silent in the church, ect. Oh, and they don't have beards so that makes them a little iffy.. I've been successful in staying out of the middle of it so they really don't know where I stand on several issues. I've got disagreements with both sides although I'm a whole lot closer with the holiness Pentecostals. Last weekend, I got a little frustrated at the Mennonite guys. A brother named Matt came down to preach with me. He is also friends with the Pentecostals. While Matt showed up I was near the Mennonites. He went over to shake their hands and said something to the effect of "Hello, Brothers." One of the Mennonites said "Well, I don't know if I can call you a brother. Are you with the Pentecostals?" Then he opened up his Bible and started telling Matt about how he was wrong about a bunch of stuff- keep in mind these two have probably never seen each other before. Well, I thought it was pathetic and ended up showing my sharp disagreements with the Mennonites.
It's frustrating when you go out to preach to sinners and you have to worry about Christians fighting over doctrine! To be honest, it's all the Mennonites. The Pentecostals, Matt, or I would have never just started arguing with them about things. I appreciate them being out there and have even learned some things from them, but I wish they wouldn't try to argue with everyone. I know why they do it though, they think that we might not be Christians. Just pray that we could all focus on reaching those in sin rather than argue about doctrine. I see enough of it on this board.
