This is something I have been wanting to ask for some time, and since Steve brought up the issue of women and theology, I thought I'd go ahead and ask. I don't want to stir up a hornets nest by asking this, I just have been struggling with this issue for some time and truly want some godly counsel...from godly men in particular.
What are your thoughts about women being local leaders?
things to consider when answering, as I've asked myself these things and don't know what to think:
what if she has young children at home? do they go with her or stay at home?
what if her husband does not support her actions?
since having a team means she is in a shepherding or pastoral role, does she authority to rebuke a man on her team?
how would a woman have the authority to deal with wolves in sheep's clothing that will eventually infiltrate the group?
if she is single, how would she handle training and helping men in her group? If she is married how would she?
just some thoughts to consider. I've noticed that most of the local leaders with GNN who are women appear to be over 30 or 35 and so perhaps they don't have young kids anymore. But what if they did?

Please use scripture when possible. Also, since many of you men are local leaders with GNN, what particular struggles and situations do you deal with that you feel women would not be able to do the same Biblically? In my estimation, a local team is a mini church. Agree or disagree?

The role requires many activities similar to an elder or bishop, such as 1) oversight of a region of people, 2) specific oversight of evangelism teams in a local area, and 3) spiritual guidance, encouragement, and instruction in evangelism.
Parachurch organizatons should still follow the guidlines of scripture even though they do not perform all the functions of a local church. Scripture tells us that the role of elder (and bishop) are reserved for male leaders. If women are performing these roles they are doing so outside of the guidance of Scripture and are their husbands are held accountable for their actions (unless they are single of course).
We must continue to insist strongly that the New Testament applies to all Christians in all societies and all cultures and all situations -- an in all parachurch organizations too!
