Here's another interesting encounter/question for y'all: Has anyone run into someone who insists that when you refer to God it must be "YHWY" (yah-way) and Jesus as "Yeshua" (Ya-shoo-ah) other wise you are not really preaching about the Lord or His Son? Does anyone know where this teaching is coming from? I had one encounter where the young lady confronting me said that Jesus is not Yeshua translated into english...further into the conversation she said if I really wanted to be effective I should preach in greek or hebrew...upon asking her how people would understand me, she replied "Oh they'll know."

Oh yeah, I ran across a guy just like this the weekend before last.
This guy went on to tell me that it was a skin color issue. He said that the whites didn't want to worship a "black-skinned" God. He showed some scriptures that Yeshua was dark skinned. So they changed the name to fit them... I doubt it.
He went on to tell me that it was pagan to pray to Jesus, and that he was Yeshua. Actually I do believe that the Hebrew to English translation would be Yeshua-Joshua. I think Jesus comes from the Greek Iesus or something similar. So to get to Jesus we have to go to the English translation of the Greek Iesus, which is the Hebrew translation of Yeshua. I think that is right, but I would look it up before you quote me.
They question I asked the man was, "Why on the Cross was His name in 3 languages?" He was in utter disbelief that it was, so I showed him. He looked at it with a deep stare on his face and said, "Oh.. no.. That's just isn't true." He didn't know that his name was in 3 different languages on the Cross.
I don't know exactly where it comes from.

It is an extreme teaching of the Hebrew Roots Movement.

I've heard good and bad stuff about the "Messianic Jewish" movement here in America. I went to a Messianic synagogue once and I thought it was great! But I have been reading up on some of it...and it's been showing some of it strays into legalism...and some of it really gives good insight into the Jewish Messiah and what it means to a Jew.

I'm a partial Messianic, meaning I concue with the Messianic form which is portrayed by Jews For Jesus.... Being Jewish, I concur with most Messianic forms of worship expression, Biblical Interpretation (Known as Midrash) and their stand against against Replacement Theology. Messianics can be grouped into two expressions: The first is Biblical, being that of 1st century Christianity, or at least as close as they come The second is known as an offshoot, wherein they teach Yeshua is not G-d and, as well, command observance of OT law which is of a ritualistic nature. It would be well, however, for the Gentile Church to recognize the importance of the Messianic Movement, as these Brethren are quite attained in the Scriptures; they can usually bring out Biblical Truths in a much deeper light than the Gentile Church. The greatest Messianic writings are here www.studylight.org/his/bc/edr/

Oh yes. I agree. The Messianic congregation I visited, and messianic preachers I've heard have shed very deep and insightful light on the scriptures.

Genius. Can you give the reference? And here is another shameless plug for Chuck Missler audio. He really goes into depth on Jewish culture and how it relates to scripture in his teachings www.khouse.org

And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. - John 19:19-20 (KJV)
There was a tract ministry in NZ that changed over to only using Yahweh and Yeshua. They have re written all their tracts to remove the name of God, and Jesus.
