Oklahoma City
Friday-
I got my oil changed late in the afternoon right before I was going to meet Clint. When I got my oil changed they showed me where my anti-freeze was low and a valve that needed to be replaced. I drove my vehicle to my grandparents house. I was going to be without a vesicle for awhile- which meant that we couldn't go to OKC. My parents picked me up and took me home. I went to the church were I was suppose to meet Clint. In the mean time I called to cancel the hotel reservations. After talking to Clint he thought that he could fix it if a parts store had what we needed. Praise God they did! So we fixed the part and hit the road. This put us a little behind schedule, so we would not be able to go out to Bricktown on Friday night. Actually it was all a blessing. If I wouldn't have had my oil changed before we went, I would not have known about the leak and more than likely my vehicle would have overheated. Also, not long after we made it to the hotel the wind started blowing very hard. I turned the TV on on winds were up to 75 mph! I looked outside and it was raining from the west... I always thought rain was suppose to come down.. not from the side! I am glad we were not out on the street when that started to happen- if we wouldn't have been set back because of the troubles, we would have been out in that.
Saturday-
We got out to Bricktown about 12:30pm. The Blues Festival was very loud and you had to go through a gate to get to it. But there was also a arts and crafts fair going on another street, so there were plenty of people all over Bricktown. There was also a concert that was at the baseball stadium. We handed out a lot of tracks and set up and easel in a few different locations. It was frustrating because there was noise everywhere there was people. As soon as I started to preach at the fair they started doing sound tests for the concert, which drowned me out. We moved and finally found a place near the Blues fest that was quiet enough and had some traffic. I preached for awhile, but didn't gather much of a crowd. I believe the people that were across the road could hear me, so
maybe they were just standing afar off. I remember one man yelling at me from across the street. Clint also preached some and got about the same response.
About 5 or so we went to eat and rest for awhile. We heard that some other street preachers might be out there in a certain spot so we went there and waited on
them, but didn't see them. So we went and got the sandwich board and went back out. It was very frustrating because it was so loud. There was music everywhere, so we went to go get the bullhorn. I prefer to not use the bullhorn, but in this case there was no way anyone could hear me with out it. We setup in on location for awhile and preached, then moved in front of a club called CityWalk. We preached in front of it for quite a while. When we first got there was a group of women carrying in a blow-up doll into the club. There wasn't a whole lot of confrontation, so I got to preach more than just answer heckles and such. While I was preaching I noticed a couple that was sitting at a table a little ways down the street. I could tell they were listening and eventually they came up to me. They professed to be Christians, and were accusing me of not "having any fruit." They listened for about 45 mins and because no one came up and "got saved" during the preaching they thought I was doing it wrong. We reasoned with them for awhile, but eventually they got frustrated and left. I pray that they listened to what we were saying. It seemed like they were doped up on the "love gospel." In other words, God loves everyone no matter what you do and who you are. No one is really "bad" they just have minor problems.
After preaching there for awhile we moved to another location. I preached for awhile and a group of young girls came up to me and wanted to listen. One was asking me if she was going to hell because she was pregnant. I explained to her that having a baby won't sent to you hell, but fornication will. What I was trying to convey is that she could repent from sin and trust Christ, and have the baby and not still be in sin. I believe she understood what I was talking about. Then we were walking down the street where the crafts fair was and seen a gang fight. There was a group of boys walking up some stairs and another group was about to walk down. As soon as they seen each other they all attacked one another. There wasn't even any warning or anything said. They just jumped on each other. The only weapon was that one had a beer bottle and threw it at another. I would guess there was about 12 or so boys ranging from 12-18. It was pretty fierce. At the end one boy had another in a headlock holding him to the ground while 2 others kicked him in the head and body. About that time the police came and they all scattered. None were caught… When all was over there was some blood on the ground, broken beer bottle, and a pair of shoes.
