Friday-
I have been listening to some tapes from open-air conferences. They have really fueled the fire for me. I feel like I have a new urgency to preach in the OA. As soon as we got out of our vehicle and started walking down the road, some homosexuals stopped us. They wanted to know what we thought about homosexuality. After we told them, she began to tell me that what the Bible means by homosexuals is a man sleeping with a boy. She said it never deals with women. So, I read to her in Romans where it mentions women also. Later, I ran into a linguist that tried to tell me that he was a Christian, but liked to get drunk. He said that you can't trust the Bible because it has been "translated so many times." It's been a few weeks since I've dealt with people that try to say things about the way the Bible had made it to us. I probably need to refresh myself a little on it.
I ran into a lot of people that I knew from high school. One guy was walking by and seen me and was very shocked. He said, "Whoa! You have changed!!" I said, "Yes sir! I put away all the filth I had and was born again! I now serve Jesus!" I kept on walking, but as the rest of his group stopped he came back and shook my hand. All of them were younger than me, but since I went to a small school they all recognized me. I talking to one of them for awhile. He was a little intoxicated, but seemed to be under conviction. I thank God His word can cut right through the drunkenness. Later on another guy came up and shook my hand. He used to party with me. He knew who I was, but to be honest I don't remember him at all. It must be shocking when the last time you see a guy he had a joint in his hand, and then you see him with a Bible in his hand preaching on the street! Praise God!
Saturday-
We are seeing a lot of the same people. One of the bouncers told us, "All of us bouncers here decided we are going to start talking to you like we do all the other workers, because your out here just as much as we are working on the street." It is interesting. I'm getting to the point where I really love those guys. Not just a general love for people that Christians have (or should!) for sinners, but since I see them every weekend it's different. There is one bouncer that on Friday night we asked him his name. He would not tell us. I told him that I wanted to know so I could pray for him by name. He told me, "I don't want your prayers! I can pray for myself!" "Well, that's just too bad I've already been praying for you!" Then he said something else and I responded, "Get over it! I have already been praying for you and I will continue to." It was somewhat funny he was getting all riled up because I told him I was praying for him.
I think I had a drunk girl start flirting with me.. A girl came up to me as I was holding a sign that had 1 Cor 6:9-10 on it. She told me that she was raised Methodist, but was out just for the night because of a bachlorette party. She seemed to act convicted, but more sentimental than anything. She kept apologized to me a few times for being drunk. She acted as if she was about to leave so I asked her if she wanted a tract. She said yes and asked me to put it in her purse for her. I thought it was weird but didn't think anything about it. So I dropped the tract in from about 6 inches about her purse, because I didn't what she was doing. She asked to shake my hand. A lot of times people just want to shake my hand and be polite and thank me, so I didn't think much about it. As she shook my hand she clasped my hand with her other hand and acted like she was going to rub my hand so I pulled it back. I was shocked.. "What is this girl thinking" is what I said to myself. Then she asked if she could shake my hand again. I said, "You are drunk." She said, "Yes, I'm sorry" Then she went away. What on earth would make a girl flirt with a guy standing on the road with a sign and telling her to repent and turn to Jesus. I have no idea….
