I have found this article to be very eye-opening and I wanted to share it with others. I am not starting this thread as a debate or discussion about the article. Just want to share it with those who might want to read a little history of the Church: www.gospeltruth.net/aug/sinsofaug.htm

I didn't read this article yet but I did just (finally) finish "Will the Real Heretics Please Stand Up"... A lot of good stuff put into perspective on what happened historically to Christianity with Augustine.

A lot of good stuff put into perspective on what happened historically to Christianity with Augustine. I just finished that this evening as well. Now to go back and verify his arguments/statements. A brother posted a link on another site to an online treatise on this book. I started reading it [the treatise] but was really turned off by its lack of heart, seemed more like a drive-by shooting of attacks than loving reproof. But to show my brother respect, I need to go back and give it another shot. (no pun intended, LOL)

Don't even get me started on Augustine!!! He and Origen both did great damage to the hermeneutics of Scripture. Sadly, they let gnosticism creep into their theology. Read them and Clement of Alexandria with great caution.
It might be worthy to note that Augustine is practically the patron saint of the Roman Catholic Church. They adhere to his theology like glue. Nuff said?

No. Just because Rome adhere's to it does not make a doctrine invalid. Does not Rome hold to the Trinity? Don't most Christians hold to the Trinity? Does the fact that Rome holds to the Trinity make the Trinity wrong? Just something to think about.

It might be worthy to note that Augustine is practically the patron saint of the Roman Catholic Church. They adhere to his theology like glue. Nuff said? Of course not. Theology is true if it lines up with Scripture, not if the theologian who espoused it lived a godly life or if his followers today are Christians. Look at James 2:19: "You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe--and shudder!" The fact that the demons believe there is one God doesn't change the truth of that proposition. Truth is not effected by the lives, followers, or salvation of those who teach it. It is certainly interesting to look at those factors, but Scripture alone can validate or invalidate any teaching.

Allow me to clarify my point....
Augustine and Origen and many of the Alexandrian church fathers were among the very first to "allegoize" much of the apocalyptic literature of the Bible. Basically promoting the view that the church has replaced Israel. Replacement theology began with them. It was the promulgation of these ideas that gave birth to both the Crusades and the Holocaust.
The RCC holds very closely to these teachings. Guess who was the greatest fan and promoter of the Crusades? Guess which church was not only absent in any support for the Jews during the Holocaust but their heirarcy helped send them to the camps? I give you one guess....
