Jesus said in John 8:29 that He did always those things that please the Father, therefore the Father is always with Him. God will not leave us or forsake us as long as we obey Him. Acts 5:32 says God gives the Holy Spirit to them that obey Him. The verse in John 10:28 where Jesus says that no man will pluck them out of my hand is preceded by a verse that says His sheep will hear His voice and follow Him. So if we get in tune with the voice and heart of God and obey Him and walk with Him then He will never leave us. Jesus said in John 14:23 that if we love and obey Him then (conditional) He will manifest Himself to us. The whole thing is totally conditional.
The verse shangxin is referring to is in Hebrews 13:5.
Dusty,
Where do you get the idea that Islam is older than Christianity? Muhammad wasn't around until 600 A.D.

Actually, the verse is not only in Hebrews but I believe two others. At least three if you substitute the "I" for "he," I believe.

Just an FYI, You are correct. Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) came after Jesus and it was during his lifetime that modern Islam was born. However, the roots of Islam come from a time when Allah had come to be considered merely one of the more powerful of many gods. According to Islamic tradition, Allah (who is the same God of Judaism and Christianity) sent Mohammed to revise the followers of this religion in much the same manner as the prophets of Judaism. Remember that the split of Judaism and Islam came immediately after the almost-sacrifice of Issac (although Muslims claim it was Abraham's other son that was almost sacrificed).

Where do you get the idea that Allah is the same as the God of the bible?

micah, if you werent listening to me, why would i bother explaining it again?
Allah - God of the Valley, Jehovah - God of the Mountain, i.e. there is more than one translation to each name. they are the same god, because islam and judaism is a family-fued religion.

Where do you get the idea that Allah is the same as the God of the bible? Sorry, can I quote myself briefly? I apologize if I was not clear on that point, but I was speaking from an Islamic perspective. Remember, I'm agnostic. I don't claim any characteristics of God. I am incapable of understanding the infinite anyway. I must live my life according to how I believe it must be lived, regardless of the existance of any diety(ies).
