Came across this article:
Christian version of 'Idol' under way LOS ANGELES, March 28 (UPI) --
First came "Pop Idol" in Britain; then the idea crossed the pond and morphed into "American Idol"; now comes "GIFTED," the Christian music version.
The Orange County (Calif.) Register reports that instead of Simon Cowell's trademark nastiness, producer Paul Anderson tells contestants they're singing for an audience of one -- God.
Some 12,000 people auditioned for the contest, which was organized through churches. By Monday, there were just 23 competing in this week's super-regionals, which will reduce the field to just eight for the finals in Hollywood in May. The winner will be signed by a major Christian recording label and win a gig as the opening act for former Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell, who is one of the celebrity judges.

Ideally, what kind of show should Christians produce?

I know that Teen Mania Ministries, the ministry that Acquire the Fire is based from has a TV show called atfTV. I've seen it several times and it's very good. I know a young lady personally who, on the night she planned to commit suicide was flipping through the channels, saw atfTV and Ron Luce preaching to those who were thinking of committing suicide. Not only was her life saved, but her soul when she put her faith in Christ.
I think there are some good Christian programs out there...however, I personally have a hard time thinking that an "american idol" type of show, in the name of God, is going to have the proper effect.
