I am sorry to see him leave this life, but happy he has gone to meet the Lord.
Many liked him, many didn't. He was outspoken and not afraid to mix politics and religion.
I think the Christian community lost a good Brother today.

One less false teacher to worry about. It's amusing that sometimes our views differ so much that we agree completely

I am not saying he was not a false prophet because I do not know all that much about him, but I was wondering why you consider him a false prophet.

One less false teacher to worry about. Christian compassion at it's finest. I disagreed with many of Rev. Falwell's positions (particularly politically) but do think that he was serving the Lord the best way that he knew how. He has gone on to a better place, but I do feel for his friends and family who are grieving for him now.

How many people has he deceived into thinking that catholics are Christians? Too many... That is why I may seem harsh against him.

Brother Jonathan, some RC's are Christians... though I'm not defending the RC system, which is demonic and antichrist, i think it unwise to claim that Christianity rests on what pew you sit in.
There are RC's who are Born Again and walking with God in Holiness; this may be only the exception, but nonetheless, to paint all RC's with a brush that judges their salvation, based on the pew they sit in and not on their confession of faith and Holiness of Lifestyle is to do what God does not call you to do.
Falwell may have been incorrect in promoting catholicism, if in fact he did so, which I cannot say for sure, as the internet and word of mouth are quite unreliable sources of information, and he may have made many errors in his life, both personal and private, but to call the man a false prophet is very harsh indeed; it would do you well to reconsider your statement here, Brother Jonathan, as God will hold you accountable for your statement when you stand before Him.
The Lord knows Falwell and what he promoted and taught... you and I do not; we have only a glimpse, through the internet and word of mouth, and that's not sufficient information to make such statements.

Amen Dan!
We know that Rev. Falwell was most certainly hated by the world for Christ' sake, and most certainly was a fellow soldier in the battle who devoted himself fully to the task of spreading the gospel. He also started a Christian College to provide a place Christians could send their children to get a college degree where God was glorified.
We should be quick to verify facts before we slander the dead in Christ.

Hey Sean:
I was merely calling him what the world know him as. The word reverend from Webster's says: worthy of reverence; of or relating to the clergy, with caps it is a title for the clergy.
Reverence is defined as: to regard with great respect or awe; to venerate.
Now, the children who got eaten by a bear for calling the prophet "baldy", would have been better off if they had someone tell them they should be reverent to the servant of God.
Reverend or reverance, should in no way mean "worship" for only God should be worshipped. You might well have a Pastor. Maybe you call him Pastor "Smith" for instance out of respect for him as your shepherd. Some were called "Master", which was a reverent way of addressing a teacher of the ways of God.
Now that I am in ministry and understand how much work these men of God put in, I see no reason not to respect them. That respect is reverence, so why should we so quick to not call someone Reverence Falwell. Its not like I called him "Father", did I?

Yeah there are some catholics which are Christians, but they need to come out of that system - if they are don't then they are being disobedient. When the Pope died he flew the flag half-mast at his university. When a preacher tryed to call him and ask him why he was doing that there was no response from him... www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoENjcVCrIs

Jerry Falwell died today, at age 73. Discuss. Didn't really know much about him or his teachings. Been out of the USA since 1999. By 99 his (political) power had actually waned considerably. He was the first person to really mobilize evangelicals politically in the modern day. His Moral Majority was a really big deal back in the 80s, and you can think of Christian Coalition and Focus on the Family as its spiritual successors. He was instrumental in the gaining of a political voice for the christian right. Whether that's a -good- thing, and whether the way he -used- that power was good, are entirely separate issues.
