Nancy Leigh DeMoss's message on What Kind of Heart Does GOD Revive has this segment of contrasts... I put it here for us to chew on. Blessings. Proud heart | Broken heart | focus on failures of others | overwhelmed with their own spiritual need | self righteous, critical fault-finding spirit, look at everyone else’s faults with a microscope but their own with a telescope, look down on others | compassionate, forgive much because they know how much they’ve been forgiven, think the best of others, esteem all others better themselves | independent and self-sufficient spirit | dependent spirit, recognize their need for others | must prove that they’re right | willing to yield the right to be right | claim rights, demanding spirit | yield their rights, meek spirit | self-protective of their time, rights and reputation | self-denying | desire to be served | motivated to serve others | desire to be a success | motivated to be faithful and make others a success | desire for self-advancement | desire to promote others | a drive to be recognized and appreciated, wounded when others are promoted and they are overlooked | have a sense of their own unworthiness, thrilled that GOD would use them at all in any ministry, eager for others to get the credit, rejoice when others are lifted up | subconscious feeling that “this ministry is privileged to have me and my gifts”, think of what they can do for GOD | “I don’t deserve to have any part in this ministry”, know they have nothing to offer GOD except the life of Jesus flowing through their broken lives | confident by how much they know | humbled by how much they have to learn | self-conscious | not concerned with self at all | keep others at arms length | willing to risk getting close to others, take the risks of loving intimately | quick to blame others | accept personal responsibility, can see where they were wrong in a situation | unapproachable | easy to be entreated | defensive when criticized | receive criticism with a humble, open spirit | concerned with being respectable and what others think, working to protect their own image and reputation | concerned with being real, what they care about and matters to them is not what others think but what GOD knows, willing to die to their own reputation | find it difficult to share their spiritual needs with others | willing to be open and transparent with others as GOD directs | want to be sure that no one finds out when they have sinned, instinct is to cover up | don’t care who knows or finds out, willing to be exposed because they have nothing to lose | has hard time saying “I was wrong, will you please forgive me?” | quick to admit their failure and to seek forgiveness when necessary | tend to deal in generalities when confessing their sin | able to deal in the conviction of GOD’s spirit to acknowledge specifics | concerned of the consequences of their sin | grieved over the cause or root of their sin | remorseful of their sin, sorry they got found out or caught | truly and genuinely repentant over their sin which is evidenced in that they forsake that sin | wait for the other to come and ask for forgiveness when there’s a misunderstanding or conflict | take the initiative to be reconciled, race to the cross, see if they can get there first, no matter how wrong the other may have been | compare themselves to others, feel worthy of honor | compare themselves to the holiness of GOD, feel a desperate need for His mercy | blind to their real heart condition | walk in the Light | don’t think they have anything to repent of | realize that they have need of a continual heart attitude of repentance | don’t think they need revival but they are sure that everyone else does | continually sense their need for a fresh encounter with GOD, for a fresh filling of His Holy Spirit |

There are some really challenging statements there bro. I think I might print that out.
However, here's one that I wonder about. There are a few there that would seem to contradict what Moody's desire was when someone said that the world has yet to see what God would do through one man who's heart is totally surrendered to God. Moody replied, "By the grace of God, i'll be that man" or something to that effect. From some of those statements he should have said, "Lord, make someone that man." or "make brother so-and-so that man."
Or maybe i'm not really getting what the writter is trying to put across in some of her statements.

I typed this out from a message DeMoss gave in '95. I wouldn't think it odd if there were great people of GOD who practiced something different than what is shown on the Broken side since they were human as well... but its also the heart that's in question, and the heart isn't always seen through the exterior. Moody, as David, sought GOD's heart and being eager to be one that is totally surrendered to GOD is (I think) a necessity of a godly person. But what her list asks is 'Where is our heart?' Are we focused on only me getting to the place of surrender and blessing or do I want all people to get there, even if I can't myself?
Her list isn't straight from scripture but from experience and revelation, its not to be taken firm like God's commandments but as some hints while we investigate ourselves.
GOD bless you!

I loved this list, and was VERY convicted by it! It's been a good resource for me to use to examine myself spiritually. Thanks for posting it.
