The Nazirite Vow is a seperation a consecration of holiness unto the Lord.
Numbers 6:1-8
6:1
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
6:2
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD:
6:3
He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.
6:4
All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.
6:5
All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.
6:6
All the days that he separateth himself unto the LORD he shall come at no dead body.
6:7
He shall not make himself unclean for his father, or for his mother, for his brother, or for his sister, when they die: because the consecration of his God is upon his head.
6:8
All the days of his separation he is holy unto the LORD.
This vow was given for those who wanted a closer walk with God its not legalism but one of holiness(v8).
The first seperation was from wine and wine was a representation of wordly joy Ephesian 5:18 " And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;" When we do not find joy in God we will go elsewhere to obtain it, its not that we are not to have fun but being involved in worldly entertainment dulls and numbs your eternal perspective.
Second was not to cut your hair in those days it was an embarrassment for a man to have long hair 1 Corinthians 11:14 "Does not even natureitself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame to him?". So having long hair was to be shameful before all those around you are you willing to be talked about and be rejected not only by your appearance but by the words you speak Luke 9:26 "For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and the holy angels." So you see while you are trying to maintain your own glory you will not enter His glory.
Third was to stay away from dead things. In the church today we engage in many activities and they are all dead no life in them whatsoever Ezekiel 37:9-10 " Then said he to me, Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus says the Lord GOD; come from the four winds, O breath, and breath upon these slain, that they may live.
So i prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army."
Until then they had all the veins, nerves, muscle tissue and skin but they were not yet alive until God breathed unto those bones, and the same with our many religious activities or even our street preaching and witnessing, if we are not doing them with the anointing breath of God, its DEAD. So keep yourself from things that look flashy and that would bring you to someplace high in society and remain humble before God and all men.
Please expound as the Spirit leads i know their is more that can be sqeezed out of these verses..
