This report was compiled by our great friend Bro. Ruben Israel during his recent visit with us in Miami. Our annual hit on the sodomized city of Key West was the main focus of the weekend.
It is split in to 2 parts, and told as only Ruben can!
Preaching at Fantasy Fest in Key West. What a weekend, this report is just a small highlight of the impact made. I arrived in Miami Friday around 3PM and Brother Doug was there to pick me up. Dean from Flagstaff at the last minute backed off due to his wife’s surgery last week, so once Doug picked me up we were en route to meet the rest of the Miami Bible Believers. RevJK rented a nine passenger van as we rendezvoused at Doug’s house. It was good to see JK and Onica, Doug, Emmanuel and Larry from Tampa. Jose blessed us with a large house in Key Largo as we unloaded and drove out to Key West.
I had a Law firm from Pennsylvania shoot the big gun and email the City Attorney and Chief of Police and others a “no touchie, leave us be” letter before we hit the beach. We lifted up the banners, opened up the horns and started to walk in the middle of Duval Street preaching to all. We were soon met by Key West police that walked with us and stopped while we preached at intersections, moving revelers away for hours.
During our walk, I had three men that came to preach and were shut down by the police department. They were considering getting arrested or just leaving. THEN. They saw/heard us walking down the street using NO-bull horns with police around us and these men ran towards me. They could not believe what we were doing after their encounter with the police. The leader said he met me a few years back and wanted to fellowship and preach with us. Another young man from Houston said he saw me in Houston during the Super Bowl but did not want to stop us from preaching. These men preached with us for the whole night and preached a good salted message.
This event is a bit of Mardi Gras, a dash of Spring Break and a shake of a sodomite parade, baking all weekend, it is raw sin. That is why we are pulled out of the bullpen, to be as bold as the sin in Key West. Due to much sin, we were given much grace. It was long night, with many conversations and we did not get into Key Largo until around 4AM.
Saturday we awoke not from the daylight but from the bright light from Doug’s shorts (inside joke), we had a Bible Study and were ready for the day. Jude from the Tampa area came to join us. I enjoy this brother, his wit, his cool head as he has been faithful working with Larry in Tampa. Also Micah and Elizabeth joined us as we loaded up a full house and drove out to Key West again. The fellowship in the van is priceless. The road was wet and we saw dark clouds around Key West. I guess the Lord allowed water to fall rather than fire before our arrival, because once we set up on the street, the rain stopped.
Saturday night was the big parade and we walked the route in the middle of the street, until the streets were closed. We set up during the parade in two groups and preach to the immediate crowd and the entire parade. After the last float we followed behind and walked the route. When the crowd was too thick, we stood and preached with two horns blasting. The police arrived and told us to keep moving and that we did. Everyone that passed by was led to the Lord but what they did with that information was in their court.
Before the parade started, I talked with a man that said he was a Baptist and fellowshipped with a local Baptist Church. I asked him “If John the Baptist were to walk into Key West tonight, would he do what you’re doing or what we are doing?” He answered, us. This person watched us doing the parade and answered questions from the crowd, then asked if he could join us walking the route. His name is Tony and he carried a banner and preached with us for hours. I believe his Christian life has changed. He was not ashamed of the Gospel and Tony supported all that we did. I’m sure on Sunday, he gave a report and I think he will have stories that he will tell for years. He even drove out and tried to join us on South Beach after Church on Sunday. We will keep in touch with him and maybe he can work with the others out there.
Another guy from Ecuador came to Key West to see history. He saw us preaching and the angry mob around us and jumped in the fray. Did he preach? No. Did he hold a banner? No. Did he witness or answer questions? No. He put his body in between us and the street mob, he was a human buffer. This young man was pushed, yelled at, punched, had drinks poured on him and moved bodies away from us for hours. At the end of the route, I talked with him and then he was gone. I never saw where he went, but remember that he said, he saw evil and had to do something.
Driving back to Key Largo was quiet in the van, as everyone was tired. We planed on preaching in South Beach on Sunday and that we did.
