You erroneously assumed that the "mercy" extended was to those civilizations.
You accuse me of "not reading" what you write yet you didn't read what I wrote. Due to the rampant sin, much of the disgusting acts related to the worship of their "fertility" gods the diseases could have spread and wiped out not only that civilization but the Israelites as they came into the land.
The mercy was saving them from storing up more wrath for themselves against the day of wrath. In other words, God kept them from adding to their "rap sheet" so the punishment wouldn't be as severe.
Rom 2:5-6 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. NIV
So, yes God destroys out of judgment. He was judging their sin, but does so also out of His mercy for those around them as well.

Think of all the killing he's done. Heck, think of the flood. \; Yes...think about it. God hates sin! He destroys sin. If you live in sin and reject God, you're an enemy of God. The Scriptures give us sufficient warning of the wrath of God. This is why we need Jesus--because we're all sinners. Jesus paid the judgment for us. Unless one repents and trusts Jesus, then that person will be judged and sentenced as well. Your quite right, there is one that judgeth you if you reject Christ, the only righteousness and grace given to cover your sins.

As I'm sure you all know God says envy is a sin and worthy of d**nation, etc. etc. But I've just come upon the fact that God is guilty of this crime! In Exodus 20:5 "for I, the Lord, your God, am a jealous God." Huh, God is one of those 'Do as I say, not as I do' kinda people. Of course this isn't the only time he's broken his own law. Think of all the killing he's done. Heck, think of the flood. Hypocrital God for hypocritcal "Christians." Didn't you say you were a Christian helping kids at a Christian camp, why would you write this?

He's not a True Christian™ to you.
You're not a True Christian™ to him.

That's right, anybody who calls God a liar, is in darkness, and the truth is not in him.

...if god hates us so much it kind of makes you wonder why he bothered creating us. It's a matter of people hating God. The Scriptures tell us if one is against God, rejects God is a child of Satan. A lover of darkness rather of light. People love their sins so much, they're willing to die for it. And that they'll do.

the question, yet again, and forever will be: how can a man be saved if he is killed? physical death or spiritual death?

you are not listening to the question: if non-believers are killed at the hands of jews/christians, how do you expect them to be saved, especially since you are commanded to fulfill the great commission?

Nonbelievers like Jesse who call themselves Christian are worse than you heathens.
It is those people who deserve to be killed, not you heathens. They profess Christianity but they know nothing of Jesus. They have never truly experienced a connection with our Lord.
Until they do, they will burn, especially the leader of this all, Jesse.

Why would they be killed by the hands of Christians? It's their choice to believe on Jesus for salvation or not. Are you speaking of self-defense?

I have been trying to help children learn that God is a loving and caring God. None of that fear and hate hogwash. I don't know where the "hate" (that seems to be an overly used term these days) comes from in this thread; maybe I've missed it. But I agree to an extent that one should not repent because they are "afraid of God". But they need to recognize how loving He is because He gave His only Son for our salvation--He is a merciful God. However, one needs to know if they reject God, then they've rejected this kind and loving sacrifice. And there will be a day when God pours out His wrath on those who've not put their trust and repented thru Jesus. God died to save you--and the salvation is free! It's an amazing offer! Is this message hateful? No way! It would be hateful for those who knew God's only way to salvation to withhold this gospel so that the individual would be lost. I think the greatest demonstration of love for us mere mortals is the demonstration of concern for complete strangers and their eternity. How's this hateful?

In other words, if the person is already dead, how do you fulfill the "great commission"...but I'm not sure in the context of this discussion. Maybe it's the sudafed clouding my head! hahah. That's my take, but I'll let him clarify it.

no. christians kill people in the name of god. they did in the old testament, as through history up to modern days. how do you save a man, fulfill the great commission, if you kill nonbelievers?
how much more do i need to explain it? this is a simple concept.

Well, for one thing you didn't explain it. It was pretty fragmented thought--but I have an understanding as to what you mean now. Please cite examples where a christian (and I don't mean a christian in name) has killed a person, any person, in the name of God? Vengeance belongs to God, not any person. A Christian is commanded to love his enemy and pray for them. You'll have to come up with something better in your argument other than a Nazi Germany example. Nazi Germany was a pagan, Godless nation. So that won't "hunt". So I would submit your argument "Christians kill people in the name of God before they are saved" is flawed. Because I don't think you'll be able to cite one example of a true, Holy Ghost filled person who has murdered a non-believer. Godless people are always using the banner of a "god" to do their evil. All you have to do is look at the Middle East. I have no idea what god they are killing for, but I have yet to see the Southern Baptist Air Force bombing civilians. Since there were no "christians" in the Old Testament days, you must be referring to when God judged nations at the hands of the Jews.

yes, you are right. they denied god, but they did not do anything wrong. why did god have them killed in his name if the entire purpose of divinity, whether it be old or new testament, is to save people?

Yes they did do something wrong,,,,they denied Jesus Christ, the greatest mercy God bestowed, to save them, they chose to live in darkness, and love sin and the things of Satan instead......and not accept the gift from God.

wkufan, that is a christian escapism. in modern history, you deny that christians do wrong, and that all non-believers do evil in satan's name. this is always a ridiculous, ludicrous claim that comes from the christian camp.
note: the old testament jews come from the same god as christians, and regardless of the laws at the time, 'men of god' still murdered thousands of people in his name. you cannot deny it for the bible has written records of atrocities...the jews are good record-keepers, this much i can give them.

It has nothing to do with "escapism", it's a factual observation. Demonstrate any proof that a true christian, who especially recognizes that his Lord is JEWISH and is commanded to love thy neighbor as themselves, actually participated or condoned the action of the Nazi state, soviet state or any other act you can think of. And yes, non-believers can, not always, do things in satan's name whether they know it or not. The Scriptures clearly tell us if one rejects God, then he is an enemy of God--a child of the devil, not a child of God. So which is right? You or the Bible? I've never denied that christians "can do no wrong". In fact, all of mankind are sinners irrespective of "faith". Christians can mess up, but a real Christian knows murder is sinful and countermands the Commandments of God--and the result is judgment. If an individual conducts himself to such behavior, he is not a christian. Again, prove to me the true Christian Theology committed atrocities. Let me remind you of the many people who profess christianity and have no clue whatsoever what it means--especially many on this particular message board. Christianity is about repenting and putting your faith in Jesus--and professing the Word of God. Don't be confused on title or classifications that people assign themselves. You're exactly right, it's the same God. God does not change. And as I mentioned before, God executed His judgment thru the hands of the Jews. And yes, these were "men of God" because they followed His instructions. They did not do this without His command. Why did God do this? To demonstrate He is God and to judge those who sinned against Him. Now since there's no prophets available to us since the birth of Christ and we have the Scriptures to tell us all we need to know, God will execute His judgment on His own and without commanding a group of people to do so. And I guarantee that His judgment will be coming.
