jeff, jesse and lauren preached in the downtown district of 'deep ellum' dallas, texas. this was on a previous friday, and this [highlighted in bold] caught my eye...
"Later that evening a young lady stalked out of the club, wearing a black dress...she was walking very oddly, kind of marching, and muttering and grunting - then she would scream "ROCK ON!" or profanity while doing a satanic symbol with her hands. I could tell she was making even clubhoppers uncomfortable. There was undoubtedly something demonic about her. She marched over to a nearby ATM, cussed at us on her way back to the club, screamed as she went in, then came out in the courtyard to drink and sit. As I was preaching, many people gathered along the edge of the wooden fence surrounding the patio and listened to the preaching. As I tried to engage them, the woman who was sitting behind them wouls shout "ROCK ON!" to a group of partiers in one corner, doing that same satanic symbol, or she would just shout randomly. Each time, dragging the attention of the crowd away. Well, I had had enough. She did it one more time and I said "Hey!" and got her attention. I help up my Bible and said "I'm preaching here. Sssshhhh!" She got out of her seat and came to the fence, screaming and demanded that I give her "her book!" I said, "This isn't your book! It's the Word of God!" Then she screamed "Then it isn't the good book!" I replied, "Be quiet in the name of Jesus." She stomped back to her seat and sat down and I was able to continue preaching without another interruption! Praise be to God for His sovreignty and the autority He has over the powers of darkness!"--excerpt from jeff's xanga: trailerman.
i find it amusing that christians consider themselves worthy enough, or within the boundaries of some invisible and inalienable right, to demand a person to do something when they themselves are guilty of doing the same thing.
jeff, like jesse, is a street preacher. he spends his time screaming at people in condescending tones, and scaring the hell out of people. this woman was obviously being loud and obnoxious, no more so than than jeff or the other preachers, and simply because jeff lost his crowd, and simply because he could not be heard over her explosively drunk voice...
...he decided the approapriate action would be to demand silence out of her. he was disturbing the peace, yet she was the one who was reprimanded.
this is the irony that we face today from christians such as jeff.
we have no rights, but they do. when people such as myself stand up for rights, or to level the playing field, christians cry persecution.
no doubt, she was frightened, and jeff considers it a victory in the name of god...maybe he thinks he cast demons out of her. who knows...but the double standards need to end.
...if you are going to yell at me, then expect me to yell back.
do not silence me in the name of your god.
