Myself, Bill Legg, Tom Price and Tom McKean went to Fayetteville State University yesterday. It was an overcast day, but the Lord was good to us in keeping the rain back. Instead he decided that the Sun and the Son should shine in the darkness. We met at Hot Diggity Dog at 10:30am as a meeting place and drove down the road to FSU. We parked and prayed for a little bit. Then we walked over to the area where I have normally preached on this campus before. There is a brick area just outside the student center where students gather around a fountain and talk, etc. Since we got there around 11am, there weren't many people there yet. I saw that a class change was in process and decided to preach in an open field nearby while people walked-bye on the main walking path between classes. I preached for about 25 min. Many stopped and listened and some even liked what I had to say...but I didn't want to waste my voice. I knew I would need it later. After I was done preaching, we went back over to the fountain area. Tom, Tom and Bill passed out tracts and witnessed 1-2-1 while I read the Word, prayed and prepared for the crowd at lunch time
When lunchtime came, I began to lift up my voice as a trumpet. Some retreated and some stayed. Some had questions and objections and some agreed. The crowd continued to grow as I preached on sin, righteousness, judgment, grace, mercy, the cross, the new birth, etc. When I started speaking about False Teachers such as T.D Jakes, there were a lot of offended people...BUT it got them engaged more and that is what I wanted. The crowd continued to grow and when people asked questions and I raised my voice to answer, people stopped talking amongst themselves and listened. There were hecklers ranging from Muslims, to False Converts, to Prosperity "christians", to sinners who loved their sin. Many of the administrators came out to listen and observe as well. In fact, there were some administrators who were giving me "Amens!" while I preached. One interesting note is that there is a guy who either goes to the university or works there who I knew from my Army days at Ft. Bragg (1996-1998). This is the second time he has heard me preach here and he has stopped to listen both times. I can't, for the life of me, remember his name, but he was in the same unit as me and was a Medic. Praise God that he is hearing the Gospel!
All in all, MANY heard the Gospel that day! Afterwards, a small group of about 10-15 people asked me more questions on a small group level. I spent about 30 min or so with them and was done for the day. All in all, including the first time preaching for about 25 min, I preached for over 2 hours and 30 min. that day. My voice was hoarse, but God gets the Glory! Due to a camera malfunction I was only able to get the first 25 min. open air on video. Here are some pictures that Tom McKean took though (I'm adding them right now):
