I have been preaching to some extent for almost three years. I find many Christians will; study, pray, tract, witness but they will not announce their faith as Jesus commands them.
A few items to consider:
1. There are many Greek words for preaching;
KERUSSO:Matt 4:17, 10:27
1) to be a herald, to officiate as a herald
a) to proclaim after the manner of a herald
b) always with the suggestion of formality, gravity and an authority which must be listened to and obeyed
2) to publish, proclaim openly: something which has been done
3) used of the public proclamation of the gospel and matters pertaining to it, made by John the Baptist, by Jesus, by the apostles and other Christian teachers
DIAGGELLO
1) to carry a message through, announce everywhere, through places, through assemblies of men etc.
2) to publish abroad, declare
EUAGGELIZO
1) to bring good news, to announce glad tidings
a) used in the OT of any kind of good news
1) of the joyful tidings of God's kindness, in particular, of the Messianic blessings
b) in the NT used especially of the glad tidings of the coming kingdom of God, and of the salvation to be obtained in it through Christ, and of what relates to this salvation
c) glad tidings are brought to one, one has glad tidings proclaimed to him
d) to proclaim glad tidings
1) instruct (men) concerning the things that pertain to Christian salvation
KATAGGELLO
1) to announce, declare, promulgate, make known
2) to proclaim publicly, publish
3) to denounce, report, betray
2 Tim 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
My point is this, the proclamation that God is King, Lord, and Saviour and that people should repent and receive His mercy is just plain foolishness to the lost. They hate the preaching because it reminds them of God's justice. They desire to remain in darkness and you are bringing the light of God's word.
It does take practice; anything in life that you desire to do takes practice. Walking, talking, playing a guitar, tracting, witnessing, preaching etc. all takes repetition.
Satan, the world, and the influence of your flesh all want the gospel stopped at all costs. Saints, resist the temptations to put this off or excuse yourself out of your obligation to the Lord and the lost. Let's get on our knees in our closets till God has shown us His justice and then go with the fire of the Holy Spirit giving you the words of life to a dead world.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
