5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
;D Well this thread should be interesting. Have a crack at that one boys.

I am also waiting for this one and there is a noted silence from the multitudes.

He's talking about prayer in this verse.
Preaching, however, is to be done publically, even from the housetops, as Jesus commanded.

Because prayer and preaching are two different terms!

Because as Brother Ross pointed out prayer and preaching are two totally different things! Besides, all we see in the Bible are people preaching outside!

This is a typical open air preaching objection made by people who know a smattering about what the Bible says.
Many times to goes to show just how outright (not pointing fingers at you, David), that people will LIE.
"Yes, I've read the Bible." "Yes, I've read X, Y, and Z, historical documents." "Yes, I've read Darwin and Nietchze." "Yes, I've studied the Bible in Greek and Hebrew."
I don't know why, but I'm still suprised when I run into people who actually LIE about these things. Most of the time it's people spouting off a couple of sophisticated sounding titles, phrases and philosophies they heard in passing on TV, or in a discussion.
Most people have no idea who the Gnostics were, let alone what the "gnostic gospels" are all about. Many catholics have no idea what their catechism says, they just follow the lead from some Catholic apologist.
While we are admonished by the Bible to speak with grace and patience, I see the need to call people out unabashedly and without compromise when they lie about things they say they "know."

Oh really, well what about the Christians preaching in the catacombs when in hiding in Rome and where when Paul or whoever wrote letters to the churches does it specify they met outside and not in a building? So you are saying all churches meeting in buildings are worthless and nto acting according to the Bible? Hey I would agree on the worthless part at least.
Street ranters are the modern Pharasees and we all know it.

Okay fine it's about prayer. I knew I couldn't stump you guys. I guess when I saw the word babbling it just automatically made me think about street preaching. lol

Look at the surrounding verses, all critical of the overall behavior of the Pharasees and the people on this board are just that, modern Pharasees.
