Today I went with boldness and preached ON the Tyler Junior College campus with another fellow from Longview.
This is the campus where Jesse was arrested for preaching on a public sidewalk.
I began to preach and engaged some individuals who intially shouted and mocked and started to leav, but continued to come closer and I was able to begin a decent open air dialogue - when the cops showed up. A homosexual in the crowd had called them.
TJC still cannot make up it's mind in regards to it's policies and regulations. The police officers would not give a straight answer to me. And since it's someone different who approached each time they had no idea that the last time I was there OAO was allowed to preach for several hours - the police even VIDEOTAPED it - without a 'permit' or 'sponsorship.' Well, these officers had no recollection of that. Neither could they give me a straight answer if TJC is public or private (it is public).
They sent us through the same hoops to obtain permission. Finally we spoke to someone who said we had to get sponsorship from one of the ministries.
The fellow I was with has a real heart to get in on the campuses and really affect the student ministries for the good - so he was willing to meet with them and share his heart and do ministry to those who the ministries attract.
As the weather gets nicer I'll be back...and I'll preach on the sidewalk where they say it's permitted. But I'm going to try to develop a plan of 'attack' to draw students out to where the ministry is or something. Maybe distribute some information or talk to some students I know to spread the word.
As I was heading towards the admin building I tried to speak with the officers about the Gospel. The lady officer claimed to go to church and doesn't need to hear it. So I tried to speak to her of Jesus' ministry of love and recconciliation, which I'm trying to do on the campus. She said, "I don't want your love."
When I speak to officers or administrators about the technical stuff, I try to take the opportunity to also share the gospel. It's amazing to me, and for some readon I'm always suprised, when they show their hostility towards the law of God and being recconciled toward God.
It's my experience that when officers of the law and administrators who TRULY love the Lord and KNOW Him, they will offer encouragement and confirm the open door to continue sharing the Gospel when in a difficult area. God bless God fearing cops and administrators!
