2008 Preaching Reports – Week 4
University of South Florida
Monday, January 28, 2008
We arrived at the University of South Florida free speech area at 11:00 am and JK began to preach. He was able to gather a large crowd. He immediately began to refute evolution, as there were students there challenging JK regarding creation. He also preached repentance towards God, faith towards Christ, and holy living. A homosexual approached him and began tearing out pages from the bible with his hands and teeth. The homosexual and his friends also began to ignite the pages with matches. A female dressed in a black dress then approached the homosexual and put out her cigarette inside the bible and walked off. I guess she was trying to make a point.
Then I began to preach and approximately 20 minutes within my preaching, the garbage can caught on fire. The campus police arrived and put out the fire. Even though the cops were there for part of JK’s preaching, they had left. They questioned the young man and got his information, as JK stated that this young man was the one who started it. They did nothing to the young man, but JK made comments that if we were the ones who had started the fire, they would have no problems putting the cuffs on us; but because it was one of the students, nothing would happen. The corporal gave us his card and told us that if we had footage of the person who did it, to contact him.
While JK had left to pay the meter, I preached and while I did so, a couple of the students tried to steal our banner. Fortunately, they dropped it on the floor and ran off. JK met them half way as they were running and they left the area. One girl later on approached JK and said that she liked our banner. Apparently, not all of them do.
JK began to preach again for a while. Then I preached to a smaller crowd and taught on the sin of homosexuality, as one of the young men had questions regarding that. I questioned him as to whether he was a homosexual and he affirmed that he was. The young man was very civil and at the end, shook my hand. I was very grateful that he simply listened and asked questions. Unlike some other students, mainly christians, who get so irate and out of control.
Then JK preached and the crowd size grew, as it is not unusual to gather a crowd of 100-150 rather quickly on this campus. Professing christians began making comments that they were sinners and that they couldn’t stop sinning; the same song and dance, yet they couldn’t quote one verse from the bible that stated that Christians have to sin. A christian young man (a pastor’s kid) approached JK and seemed to be disturbed that we were preaching out there. Another young lady also approached JK and pretended that she wanted to accept Jesus and began to ask questions on how a person could accept Jesus. Apparently, she was affiliated with a Christian organization (Intervarsity). All she wanted to do was disprove what we were doing out there. I called her on that and she eventually left.
JK called the christians hypocrites and commanded them to stop their sin and read the Bible.
Our USF employee friend was there listening again. He made himself available to students who had questions regarding the bible, and JK would refer to him as fruit during his sermon (the false christians always say “where is your fruit, where is your fruit?).
We did meet a young man who thanked us for our preaching and was very much appreciative of us being out there. There was also another young man who sat there all day listening to us preach. At first, he mocked, but then later said that he was a Christian and actually began to defend us against other students. Lastly, there was another student who defended our First Amendment right to be there, but he wasn’t a Christian.
I believe we left around 4:00 pm.

We arrived at USF close to noon, but before JK was able to start preaching, the same young man from yesterday (pastor’s kid) was there to start arguing with us that we shouldn’t be preaching the message we were preaching (a message of repentance and holiness). JK ignored his questions and told him that he would start preaching. He followed JK for a few minutes as JK simply ignored him. He eventually left.
A small group of students began to form. I did notice a lady filming our preaching. JK did approach her later and she mentioned that she was a campus police (not in uniform), but wouldn’t answer any more questions.
An hour later, JK told me to begin preaching. I taught on living obedient to God, not choosing sin, but rather choosing righteousness. Once again, the Christians seem to be opposed to the message of sanctification, as they said that they were sinners and couldn’t stop sinning. I asked them to show me one verse in the bible that said that they had to sin. They couldn’t show me one verse, yet I showed them many verses in the Old and New Testament that showed that Christians had victory over sin. They refused to believe the scriptures. By that time, I had a good sized crowd. Hecklers started popping up, so JK told me to stop preaching and that he would take over from here.
The crowd continued to grow in size as he continued to preach with the same hecklers mocking and gyrating in an ungodly manner. JK’s voice began to give out and because he didn’t want to strain his voice entirely as he would be preaching at Mardi Gras for the next week, we decided to call it a day.
One young man approached us and asked us sincere questions as we were about to leave. We answered his questions and as we were packing to leave, a gentleman approached us. He asked us what church we attended. He also stated that we were wrong in what we were preaching and said that he was a sinner; that we’re all sinners. We tried to show him in the scriptures verses regarding sin, but he refused to listen and JK said that he could follow us to our car. That was a mistake. He continued to make excuses that he was a sinner and was clinging on 1 John 1:8 as his escape verse. We told him to read the next two chapters and put it all into context. It seemed that all he wanted to do was just argue his false doctrine. This was very grieving to us, not only because this “pastor” wanted to argue his doctrine, and there were some students who watched this incident, but also because so many churches are full of these false doctrines. And as we go out to these campuses, the majority of the opposition comes from Christians who are not obedient to the scriptures, as they are mostly taught by pastors who do not know the scriptures.
There are so many verses in the Bible that show that Christians are saints, not sinners, such as: 1 Cor1:2, 2 Cor1:1, Eph 1:1, Phil 1:1, Col 1:2 and many more verses. Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil; to break the power and bondage and penalty of sin. What good news indeed!
Our USF employee friend was there once again for support. We are very encouraged by him as he is standing strong with the Lord. He also gave us a brief testimony of how he has been standing strong in the Lord since his repenting, and is now teaching a discipleship class in his church, encouraging young people to live obedient to the Lord! Praise God!
