Sunday January 25, 2009: I had the privilege of preaching in the local church where we were staying. I preached for over an hour from Matthew 9:1-8 and Luke 8:1 on “A Gospel of Power”.
Monday January 26, 2009: I was not able to get on campus today. Driving up to our host location, we needed some repairs on our trailer and chose to take care of it this day.
Tuesday January 27, 2009-Florida State University-Tallahassee, Florida: For some reason I missed my turn going in to Tallahassee so I arrived later than I wanted. It was great weather for preaching this day especially at this time of year in this part of the country. The high was 76 degrees.
I missed the first class break so when I began preaching at 12:30 PM there were very few students walking around. Soon a few sat on the wall facing the wall I was standing on and began listening to the preaching. I engaged some of them and asked them questions. The crowd slowly grew to around 30-50. At this time I had some pretty good dialogue and question and answers.
The crowd continued to grow until it was eventually around 275-300. At this time the crowd was so loud and rowdy it was difficult to get into much depth of preaching but just a basic “repent or perish, turn or burn, holiness or hell” message.
ASSAULTED BY A BISEXUAL
There were several homosexuals in the crowd and a black male bisexual came and stood on the wall next to me. As the crowd size increased, he gave me a very hard smack on the buttocks.
By 2:00 PM the crowd size had dwindled down to around 20-30 and I was having some good discussion with some of the students listening. The police showed up around 2:10 PM and told me I was no longer in the free speech area. They pointed about 35 yards away where the new free speech area was to be located. I asked them when the policy was changed and was it in writing. They responded that the policy had been changed several months ago, was in writing and I could obtain a copy of it.
I announced to the small group of 20-30 that I was moving to the new area and it seemed all of them followed me. I began in the new area by continuing the teaching session I was having with several of the attentive listeners. I thought I may end the day with this small attentive group in a discussion session.
PREACHING TO THE FOOTBALL TEAM
Soon the group of homosexuals showed up again and began heckling. I continued preaching and the crowd began to increase in attendance again. Many of the football players had gathered on the wall and were listening attentively about 50 yards away. Soon they all came around. The crowd continued to grow until it reached around 200. The crowd atmosphere was about the same as it was earlier in the day when I had the larger crowd only not as loud and rowdy because the crowd was not as big.
RESISTING CONVICTION
By 3:30 PM I still had a crowd of around 150-170 but after being hammered with the law, holiness, righteousness of the Word of God and sin, righteousness and judgment preaching they were very convicted and resisting by much heckling and mocking. I believed, I had preached enough to them for this day as the questions and response of the crowd was becoming more and more silly.
I stopped preaching around 3:30 PM and walked over and sat down. I expected several students to come and ask me questions as usually happen but only one did. This campus is very liberal and has many strongholds on it. It is easy to get larger crowds here but difficult to get sober, sincere attentive ones. As I left, I noticed the mormons and the homosexuals had joined together to oppose the holiness preaching.
Wednesday January 28, 2009: We were not able to make it on campus today due to rain and personal appointments concerning our trailer.
Thursday January 29, 2009-Florida State University-Tallahassee, Florida: Fellow campus preacher, Brother Rick B. had been preaching at nearby Valdosta State University and drove down to join us at Florida State University this day.
It was cold and windy in the morning as we left but by the time we arrived on campus it seemed to have warmed up some.
There was some very loud music being blasted from down near the area where we would be preaching. It was not in our area but loud enough to be heard clearly and could be a major distraction.
TRYING A NEW LOCATION
We looked over the “new” free speech area I had been moved to just off of the main concourse. We decided to try the area in front of the library away from the loud ungodly music and secular groups.
I began preaching in front of the library around 1:00 PM and decided to wear my sandwich board sign, since I had never preached in this spot. Soon, I gathered a small crowd that gradually continued to grow. The students on this campus tend to be more liberal than most of the other Florida campuses and the students tend to be less sincere and attentive. Due to this the preaching on this campus is similar to the preaching done at University of South Florida a few weeks ago where we continually had to preach strong messages of “repent or perish”, “holiness or hell”, etc.
HECKLERS AND PERVERTS
As the crowd size grew to over 100, three to four male students began a heathen dance and gyrate around me while taking off their shirts in 55 degree weather to the delight of the crowd. The crowd continued to grow to around 150-170.
One needy homosexual who calls himself “Sparkles” but whose real name is Daniel always comes and stands next to me when I am preaching to distract the crowd. The day before and this day Daniel had self adhesive labels that read “Hello my name is…” and he would fill in the blank with names such as “drunkard”, “fornicator”, etc. and hand them out to students, as I preached.
In order to get rid of this distraction I accused him of not being able to get his own crowd. He took my challenge and called everyone who wanted to hear him to another part of the green. Most of the crowd followed him but soon they returned.
ROMANS 2, 3, AND 7
Toward the end of my preaching several of the students with Bibles asked me about several Bible passages such as Romans 2 (judging), Romans 3 (sinning), and Romans 7 (Christians sinning). The crowd grew very quiet to hear the students defend their sin and read these passages. I told them, I would only allow them to read the passages if they would allow me to respond with the same attention they listened to the passages being read. This worked well for a short time but soon the hecklers, hypocrites and perverts began to disrupt again.
I asked the young man reading Romans 3 several times if he thought the Romans 3:10-18 passage was talking about Christians when it mentioned those “whose feet are swift to shed blood”, whose throat is an open sepulcher”, “whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”,” destruction and misery are in their ways”, “the way of peace they have not known”, and “have no fear of God”. He never responded.
BROTHER RICK AND SISTER ELIZABETH
At 2:35 PM I turned the preaching over to Brother Rick B. with about 40-60 students. I had some very good conversations on the sidelines and even though the students did not like my answers they did ask good questions and listened attentively.
ASSEMBLY OF GOD MINISTER DEFENDS SIN
Brother Rick continued preaching until about 4:10 PM and turned the preaching over to Sister Elizabeth. Sister Elizabeth had a very angry, smoking listener who claimed to be a professor but was dressed very sloppily get in her face and scream. She also had a Chi Alpha leader who never opposed Brother Rick B. or myself but tried to bully Sister Elizabeth.
He showed his true colors when Sister Elizabeth asked him in front of the crowd where practicing fornicators, homosexuals and adulterers go when they die and he replied “heaven”. It is amazing, how people who are in ministry leadership believe they are in right relationship with God while they oppose preaching that exalts the Holy nature of God and His opposition towards sin. They oppose what God defends and defend what God opposes. They defend what nailed Jesus to the cross. They defend what caused a Holy God to create a place called Hell.
Sister Elizabeth preached until 4:55 PM. The weather was much colder now. Brother Rick B., Sister Elizabeth and I continued to talk to small groups of students until around 5:50 PM and we seemed to make some progress with some. The black bisexual who had strongly slapped me on the back side stayed all day listening and asking questions.
