Monday March 23rd 2009, East Carolina University, Greenville NC:
I had a permit from 12:30 - 2:30, but since there was nobody using the area when I arrived I started at noon. It took a while to get a decent crowd, as it slowly built from 10 or so to 40 by 1:30pm. Some of the regular listeners were on hand which included a catholic with a very foul mouth, a girl who last semester openly stated she had been converted as a result of the preaching, and a couple members from one of the campus ministries.
As I preached a hard hell fire message of repentance, one of the campus “crusaders” began following me around touching me in an attempt to pray for me. He claimed to be living free from sin, but tried to hinder my preaching for a while and disagreed with a lot of the New Testament scriptures I preached that dealt with sin and repentance.
The crowd maintained at 30 for the majority of the day, but not many good or serious questions were asked. At one point I began to refute a Muslim student, and addressed what the Quran stated to show him Muslims do not accept the real Jesus. He soon began to make threats, curse, and yell extremely loud, and eventually became so enraged that he called the police.
As I was condemning sin, a guy who last semester asked me to pray God would deliver him from the clutch of a sexual sin, kneeled down and began to fervently scream that God is his savior and that he repents everyday after committing his sin. I calmly explained that he needed to repent and that he could be delivered if he wanted to, and because he thinks he needs not to repent of it to be saved, he will not repent. I was enjoying the “slug out” preaching so much that I lost track of time, and when the police showed up it was almost 4pm.
The police informed me that they had gotten complaints about the preaching and the university had scheduled my permit for Tuesday instead of Monday. After checking my license, they demanded that I leave, and stated I could return tomorrow. Usually if they schedule me another day due to reservations conflicts they will email me, I did not receive an email stating this. I left the campus and walked with another guy who said he can’t quit a sexual sin. He soon stated that he does not need to repent of it to be saved, so I showed him in the scriptures that he would die in his sin and go to hell if he did not repent. Luke 13:3, John 8:21, Matt 5:27-30.
