Wednesday April 8th 2009, University of North Carolina: Chapel Hill, NC.
I arrived at the Pit (Free speech area) a few minutes before 1pm, and was surprised to see a guy on one side of the Pit preaching. After listening to him for a few minutes, and making some calls to be sure of who he was, I decided to move to the opposite side of the pit and preach.
It took a while to draw a crowd and by 1:30 I had a small attentive crowd that grew to over 60. There were some loud mouth hecklers that attempted to distract the preaching and many students walked by blaspheming and yelling at the crowd demanding them to leave. An immodestly dress girl who openly opposed my biblical preaching against sin and sinning tried to rebuke me after stating that she was a minister of an on campus Christian ministry. I told her she should me ashamed of herself being a leader in a ministry and a defender of sin.
The guy who was preaching on the other side of the pit did not draw much of a crowd while I was there and left after 2pm. The crowd was somewhat uncivil, and I rebuked, reproved and exhorted sharply and loudly, and with all longsuffering and doctrine. A student told the crowd that they should leave and head to another side of campus to have someone else answer their questions if they have any. Almost the entire crowd of 50 or so left like brainwashed robots, and not many returned. I talked with and answered questions from the students that remained until 3:30, and was able to use a lot of scriptures in attempting to persuade a guy to put faith in Christ. It was a good day considering I was in the pit for only 2 1/2 hours, started around 1pm and had another preacher on the other side of the pit.
Thursday April 9th 2009, University of North Carolina: Chapel Hill, NC.
I began preaching in the pit at 12pm. There were not a lot of students in the area but some immediately began interacting with me as I denounced sin and sinful sinning. A crowd of about 50 soon gathered and stayed while I called them to repentance. The crowd soon fluctuated up and down as I preached a straight forward repent or perish, holiness or hell message. Soon students began asking questions and the majority was very civil and listening quietly.
At one point a girl began questioning me concerning the inspiration of the Bible, as I answered her (2Timothy 3:16, 2Peter 1:19-21) I apparently said something she needed to hear because she hung her head and began crying, she then screamed at me for stating she was hell bound. A black Muslim student who did not believe the Bible stated Jesus was the Son of God was disappointed after I gave him scriptures showing that Jesus was the Son of God. He took my contact information wanting more information about who Jesus is.
The crowd had dwindled down and was small for a while than had grown after 2:30 to around 75+. There was a couple of male hecklers that began yelling and talking over me while I preached. Students asked one of them to stop as he continued with his loud obnoxious nonsense.
One young man, who professed to be a Christian living free from sin, stated that the campus ministry he is involved with believes in and preaches repentance, but not often or in detail. Lots of questions were being asked, mainly from atheists, skeptics and critics, they were all answered with scripture. Conviction was apparent as several that asked questions would look down and around and nervously fidget as I answered with Bible verses.
A tall immodest dressed girl who earlier in the day was yelling and rebuking me, was listening quietly and seemed to be doing so intently. A loud mouth Asian, atheist bisexual appeared to be under conviction when she became silent after I made her aware that her lust and pride was keeping her from seeking and finding God.
I preached until about 3:30 and had good discussion with the students that remained until 4pm. I was treated to lunch by the two young men involved in campus crusade at UNC; both of their names were Josh. The crowds were very civil, asked good questions and many said encouraging words before I left the campus.
