Acts 1:14, "These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren."
Acts 2:1, "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place."
Acts 2:46, "And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,"
As I was reading in a book of Charles Finney on Revivals, on a certain chapter concerning prayer meetings surely caught my attention tonight.
I remember in the Full Gospel Church, we as the Body gathered in one accord just to pray for the salvation of those lost ones. We also would pray for the Spirit of God to attend our gatherings and to see HIS POWER work in the lives of the believers.
I notice that many assemblies have done away with their prayer meetings. Now, they gather, once, maybe twice weekly, and have praise and worship; if you want to call it such. Mostly it is a concert they put on. Then the pastor gets up and gives a message and everyone goes home the same as they came.
I once preached at a church I was a member at. One of the warnings I gave, was that we needed to get together and pray. That corporate prayer would empower us as a body of believers in a single heart, one mind body, with Christ being the head. I made the statement that it was a shame that the music team comes to practice 3-4 nights a week to practice their music, and yet no one never comes together for corporate prayer.
I was told by the pastor that I offended him and the congregation. I never preached there again.
About six months later, the music leader was found having an affair in the church. And when I say in the church, I actually mean church building. Not long after that, the co-pastor and his wife divorce and he remarries. He is still the co-pastor today of that church.
Where are the tears, the weeping, the mourning of corporate prayers for the lost and for the PRESENCE OF A HOLY GOD? Are they disappearing from the churches today? Are the people too busy to come together in prayer? Are there greater needs to be done? Bringing children to their ball games? Maybe their dance classes? Maybe too busy watching your favorite movie on the devilvision, I mean television?
The corporate prayer is our act of FAITH in putting GOD IN CONTROL. It is telling God, we cannot do this without YOU.
But my guess is, many churches are trying to do it without GOD. And that is the reason why this world is in the state it is in.
