Here is one of their bigest hang-ups.
They think that if we need to "do something" in order to be forgiven, it means "WORKS". These "WORKS" must therefore be "WORKS of Rightousness" according to their reasoning since if we do them in order to be forgiven, they are rightous works. However, they ignore Scripture: Luke 17:9 Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. :10 So likewise you, when you shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
IOW: Repentance is our reasonable DUTY. Duty is nothing to boast of (Eph 2:9). It is not by works of righteousness (good works to earn salvation) which we have done (Tit 3:5) but it is proof of our faith (Jas 2:17) in responce to the salvation offered.
Just as Paul told us to "present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." (Rom 12:1) This would be a command, not only to Christians, but to all mankind. This is a responce of faith to the Salvation offered.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Side note: Hey Jesse, don't you wish you could unscrew their heads and pour the correct interpretation of Scripture into th them? That would get rid of all the problem.

Jessee : Even if Josef ‘s theology bends more towards Calvinism than towards the opposite , where are the proofs that Josef is a 5 points Calvinist ?
And you would have better not written this : “I once had to ban Josef from my message board because he was making false accusations and was not open to a discussion”.
I remember well this thread. And I can’t say you were reasonable and not a accuser yourself.
Anyway , don’t want to take sides ...
Regarding repentance, indeed there is no place to boast about. For who can say he has repented from himself ? We know it is the Holy Spirit who convinces of Sin, Righteousness and Judgement , And no man can come to Jesus (and be saved) if he has not heard about Him. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. All this [the Word preached and received and blooming into salvation, the repentance] comes from God.

Josef is a Calvinist now?
I thought he and Patrick used to be Finneyites.
