I just wanted to share an incident that happened to me last night while out witnessing.
Our local church has been setting up a booth at a local fair for outreach over the last couple of years. Unfortunately it is hard to get “believers” to come out and do any witnessing, but a few still show up. Anyway… here is my story:
When I first arrived last night everything was set up and they had been at it all day (at least handing out balloons with “Jesus loves you” written on them). We of course give away free popcorn and ice water, but no one had been making any attempt to hand out tracts or witness (at least as far as I could tell). So I went to work right away. I got out my street preaching board (which I made from Open Air Campaigners), and put up my “Good Test” sign (ala Ray Comfort) and started handing out tracts. One of the first people to come up to me was one of the young men (probably high school aged) that was handing out balloons (from our church’s youth group). He asked me what I was doing, which gave me and opportunity to take him through the “Good Test”. He was very open and answered all of the questions honestly. He finally admitted that he was on his way to hell, so I asked him if that concerned him. He replied seriously that it did. It was then that I gave him the good news of Jesus having paid our fine for us so he would not have to go to hell. Since I knew he had been coming to our youth group for a while, I asked him, “Is this the FIRST time you have ever heard this message before?” He replied that it was! I was floored! Anyway, I ended up giving him a Ten Commandments coin and told him to think about these things and to come back and talk to me if he had any questions.
I guess I relate this story to you guys to encourage you to minister wherever you are. There certainly are unsaved right in our own midst! But it did get me wondering what was actually being taught to our youth. Please be praying for me as I will be talking to our “Youth Pastor” about this incident. And pray for the young man especially. I didn’t get his name (the Lord knows who he is), but I hope to see him again tonight.
Thanks for reading.
