G'day,
Today Peter Shiahov and I went up to the city to do a little but of witnessing.
With the Brisbane Show (EKKA) in town we thought we would open air preach while people were lining up to get in, but that got changed when we got there and saw that we actually had to go into the show.
While lining up to get into the Ekka, we started a conversation with a lady behind us, it turned out she was a Christian, and we had a bit of time of fellowship talking about evangelism while in the line. We gave her a copy of HBKS.
After handing out tracts to people walking into the show we entered the ekka, and started handing out tracts. I approached one guy sitting by himself and started a conversation. It turned out that he was another Christian who runs a street ministry, so he also got HBKS. This guy shared his testimony with me, about how he was in jail for murder, and how he got saved in jail.
I gave him my contact details, and he wants to get together to talk since we are both preaching in the same area.
We then walked around the showgrounds handing out tracts, and dropping our wallets
In the middle of the showground there is a tunnel that leads under the railway tracts, so Peter stood one side, and I stood the other, and we passed out tracts to people walking past. Just about everyone took one, and we got alot of people thanking us for them.
After we handed out nearly 500 tracts we moved to a new area as to not be noticed by security. It was then that we had a crazy idea, and that idea was that Peter get on the sky chair that went over the whole showground, and while over the crowd throw some millions off, which he did. The millions floated down nicely, and people picked them up and continued on their way.
After this we lost our wallets, a few more times, and then decided to catch the train home. While on the train we changed our minds and decided to get off the train in the city, that way we could do a bit of preaching.
So after lunch we set up the stool at the bottom of the Queen st. Mall, and I got up and started to preach. It was a short message of only about 8 minutes long, but a fair few people stopped to listen. After this Peter was going to preach, but while he was away getting ready the Brisbane Council came down, and informed me that I was going to be fined $150 for preaching!
I pointed out the council worker that I had freedom of religion in Australia to preach, but he said he didn't care what the law said, just that he was going to fine me. I stood my ground against him, and informed him that I would be making a formal complaint because he is breaching two parts of the Australian Constitution. It was then that he dropped the $150 fine. But threatened to take me to court.
We went up to the council office to enquire about a permit, and they said they do not allow street preachers during the day, but rather they have to be at night. So I put in application for a permit for night preaching.
When leaving the council office determined to fight this no preaching allowed policy, we ran into an old man in battle uniform handing out free Bibles, so we talked to him, and found out that he had been arrested, and taken to court by the council for ministering on the street, and he was able to give us a few helpful tips in combating this legislation.
Over all it was a great day with alot of seed being sowed!
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
