Marketplace Ministry
Everyday is a great day when you have Jesus! I actually work in a local produce market. I love it! I have 5 kids and I really don’t want a career until my children get older, Lord willing but we’ll see. I have worked in management in the past and quite frankly all I want to do is serve the Lord grab my paycheck and go home to my kids. I like working part time so I can get my housework done. I do not view my job any longer as a job even though I am getting paid for it. My job is my ministry.
I have been witnessing to my manager. Last week I gave him the gospel and handed him a track. He has had more than one heart attack and many strokes. A few days ago he had a stroke and went into the hospital. I prayed that the Lord would sustain him if by chance he can be saved. Two days later I called work and he answered the phone. His color has even come back to his face. He says he is protestant and goes to a Baptist church but I have a feeling he doesn’t really attend. I asked him today if he read the track and what he thought. All he said was that it was similar to what his church believed and I could tell he didn’t want to talk any further about it and looked flustered. I will continue to talk to him more maybe tomorrow.
There was this one little old lady, she was so cute. She was going on and on about how she eats well and that’s why she looks so young. I told her that fruits and vegetables are Jesus food! I told her how Jesus keeps me young. She told me “oh, I don’t need that!” She started asking me if I have any kids and I told her I have five and she looked in shock. She said “you look so young” and I told her “I’m 39 years old” and she looked like she was going to drop dead right there. She said “but you look so young” and I said “it’s Jesus!” She went on again about how she didn’t need that and walked away. In the meantime Russle my manager who had the heart attack was standing by and heard the whole thing.
I met another woman who works here, (I’m new here by the way) and we were talking and she asked me too if I had children and I said yes, and that I couldn’t raise them without Jesus. It turns out that she is a Christian. She told me where she goes to church and how when she can’t go she reads her bible, prays and confesses all her sins. I really sensed she was truly saved but I am still going to stay in contact with her. She seemed lonely and turned off by the church crowd. She told me about her son dying of a heart attack and had tears welling up in her eyes.
I went into the kitchen to make the fruit and salad bowls with Rachel and Elle. Elle is from Germany and is going home next year. She likes to listen to Joel Olsteen on television. I have been questioning her about her faith, sin and being born again. I mentioned to Rachel who speaks Spanish how I wanted to take Spanish classes for evangelism. She told me she went to church and which church she went to and I told her I had been there before. She said her parents went there. I said are they born again? She said yes and that she was too. I told her about how I went to church at one time and I thought I was a Christian but that I was not born again and still living in sin. We had a pretty good converstation. She got more and more interested the more I talked to her. Ellie, who claims to be a Christian kept interrupting us. I really felt like the Lord was telling me I was the answer to Rachel’s parents prayers. Her parents were saved but she was not.
I made sure I was talking loud as always so everyone else could overhear.
