Hi everyone. Its getting kinda cold out here in Kansas city but that doesnt mean the work of the Lord should stop, because he himself controls the weather.I need some pointer tips on how some of you go about open air preaching, one on one witnessing, passing out tracts during the winter months.I have been triple gloving my hands and then arranging my gospel tracts like playing cards and it easier to get them from the bottom of the stack.Sometimes i will have an extra pair of gloves in my bag whenever my hands get too cold so i can change gloves. Most people arent walking around like in the summer so its wise to tracts their cars.I have read of persecuted christians in countries the gospel is prohibited walking backwards in the snow so that their tracks are leading to the opposite direction just to share bibles.I was also reading a story about soldiers who were forced to a lake of ice and told they would only be allowed out if they denied christ, and they still endured till death.this encourages me whenever i get too cold.singing also warms me up ;)Do any of you have any other pointers most especially for open air?

For me, layers is always the best policy! Or...if you can afford it, some of that expensive top of the line winter wear you can get at sporting goods stores. I would imagine something warm to drink would definetly help you as well.
Make sure your head and hands are covered...and themal socks are a big plus (you can actually buy battery powered heated socks!!!) And keep moving.
Try to stay out of the wind if you can.
Hope that helps.

Consider doing door-knocking as well. Though people are not likely going to stand there and talk to you at their door if it is cold outside, they might invite you in to talk for a few minutes, which will allow you get warm.
You might also try finding a local homeless shelter and see if you can preach inside. To my knowledge, most will probably allow you to.
You might also consider trying to start some sort of in-home bible study type deal. This winter I plan on taking the singless ministry I am in charge of to a local coffee shop, and we are going to be reading through Leonard Ravenhill's "Why Revival Tarries?"
Personally, I avoid preaching open-air in the Winter months. Granted, it does not get extremely cold here in North Carolina, but it get's cold enough to to where you will quickly have a soar throat. It's also cold enough to keep most people from being outside longer than they feel they need to be. Being that I don't do open-air during the warmer months but a few times a month, my throat isn't that strong anyway. Usually after an hour of open air, I'm done for the day.

If you look closely at the lower right hand part of the picture Miles posted, you'll see my hand holding his easel! You know, I think it was wonderful that God had us begin doing outreach in the coldest months here in NY state (for Sherm, Allie and me it was in February - Miles began the previous November) - anything warmer than 20 degrees is a big plus. You know, I've found that when we do outreach in the cold, and I'm doing a one2one with someone, I don't even notice the temperature! It's only when I'm not doing anything, or when we're finished and headed back to the car, that I feel it. I definitely agree that layers help, too. We shouldn't let adverse weather distract us from laboring for the Kingdom...God will provide the venues if we would only ask.....

Praise God for the faithfulness of you people to preach in season and out of season. In the days of the Methodist circuit riders they had a saying which indicated the only thing out on bad days were Methodist circuit riders. They had a reputation in the world for enduring adverse weather to preach the gospel.
I live in Miami so we don't have cold weather here (cold for us is anything below 70), but we always continue preaching outdoors through all adverse weather we experience be it hurricane warnings, hurricane watches, rain, etc. (see previous South Beach/Miami reports). On these days there are not much people out, but we believe it is important to be faithful at all times.
Keep up the good fight of faith!

We don't have to worry about that here in Australia. The sun shines almost all year round. The only problem we have is in the summer when it is too hot and wearing a tie, shirt and pants can sometimes be very uncomfortable.
