Is Hitler in Heaven?
August 26, 2005
This past Friday in Fort Worth was wonderful. After going through the trivia and good test, I took out the entire Ten Commandments and tried to take the entire crowd through them. But before I could even get to the Third Commandment, the heckling started.
I thought it was blessed by God because a good engaging crowd is a great crowd, it means they are thinking about it. The questions ranged from “what happened to the water dome that was over the earth in Genesis?” (It came down during the flood); “do homosexuals go to heaven?”(1 Cor 6:9-10), “if a Buddhist doesn’t know the 10 Commandments is it still idolatry?”(Even Buddhists have a conscience, the law written on their hearts) and so the heckling continued which made it an interesting night, as well as an interesting fight.
One woman said “God forgives everyone!” This is a very common belief, even here in the “bible belt”. I asked her, “Oh, so Hitler’s is in Heaven?” to which she said, “Yes, absolutely!” I asked if child molesters and others of that sort will be to which she insisted with the same answer. She is the fruit of what I call “sissy sermons”. Many preachers paint a picture of God as a big teddy bear in the sky just waiting to hug and love everyone who dies, a God with no justice or holiness at all. But this woman had nothing to base her belief on other then her own personal thoughts and preference beliefs.
The rest of the night was spent giving out tracts, talking to people, and other open-air preaching. Jon Speed, I love that man, preached his heart out on repentance and not “spitting on the grace of God”. He had one of the larges crowds I've seen in a while.
I wanted to try things differently. I hate dismissing a listening crowd. We can get comfortable in our routine, and once we went through it all, we don’t know what to say so we dismiss the large crowds that we worked so hard for. So I’ll either start completely over to the crowd that is still standing there, or introduce one of the brothers or sisters that are out to share their testimony. But so long as the crowd is there and is listening, we should be preaching! That’s just the way I feel about it. So we did that and it went great, that was when the open-air really took flight and the questions from the crowd came flying!
