What does everyone think about starting class meetings whereever we go as to disciple the converts? I have had a conviction that we are failing in about half of the great commission, "making disciples". Sure they may be goinf on with the Lord, but how do we know?
This is a good book: John Wesley's Class Meeting (I have to go home to get the author name) but it is published by Francis Asbury Press.
Two questions:
1) What do you all think about starting class meetings, select societies, and penitent bands (one or all) where you are?
2) Would you commit to doing it?
This could be good discussion and it could link us all together in a much more stable, intimate and purposeful way.

John Duncan has started a campus organization to disciple both young and mature christians at UGA. This would work great but only if we could stay somewhere for a long period of time. While on campuses I have had great ministry with just Christians after the meetings had ended, doing like Bible study. I do know what you mean about lacking in the discipling deparartment. There is a void among street preachers.

I think this is why it is good to have contacts in different areas. The contacts should know where the sound churchs are. The longer you guys go to the same campuses, it could very well come to pass you will have more contacts at the university who know where the sound churchs are.

Pray that enough people start getting saved so that we could start discipleship classes.

But the question is, will God move in GREAt ways if we do not have somehwere, something, or someone to point the people to. I know that He is God and will do anything He wants, I also know that He will move either way. But Wesley set the entire nation if england on fire. The ONLY reason whitefield's fuit remained is because of John Wesley (uh oh here it comes ). Paris Reidhead affirmed this when he said that perhaps the only hope for america is the class meeting. Miles, What if we took those Christians and formed them into a group. Istead of studying with them while we are there only, we could equip them to disciple new believers. That is what wesley did. He was never in one place for long but he formed groups everywhere he went. Whether they were two people (two or more) or twenty people he connected them because "there is no holiness but social holiness" (wesley). People tend to grow faster and taller in groups. Brother Dan Lirrette has wonderful discipleship resources. We could implicate them to leave behind for curricula. That is another way the message board could come in handy. Since the proboards are free, we could start a special board for group leaders and attendees. Just a few ideas, take it or leave it ;D .

Why not just have a house church?

Why not just have a house church? Well, if one is geared towards Evangelism, then you hold evangelistic/discipleship meetings.... After weekly meetings in discipleship you'd direct them to a church which would fall under the NT definition. Classes and a church are distinct; there are differing requirements set by paul the Apostle. Plus, most here are Evangelists, not pastors. Good thought, however.

I think this sounds like a good idea. There are a few places we have to be on the tour by certain times... but if the Lord moves and calls us to stay in a place for longer, we can do it. I really liked "The Purple Book" (Jeff Olver knows what it is). I thought it was a great discipleship course. I really want to aim to disciple more this year. Certainly will make it a matter of prayer as to how the Lord will lead us in that direction.
