Can someone please give me a suggestion of how to advise new converts about where to go to church without confusing them? This always bothers me.I really worry that they are going to end up in a cult or some prosperity preaching church. Not to mention I can never seem to find a church I really like myself.

If you don't know of a solid Church in which you can direct them, the best thing for you to do is to strongly and heavily encourage extensive bible reading.
New converts need to dig into the word, and drink it like milk. And if they do that, if they recognize the scriptures as the final authority, through which the Spirit speaks to them, they can then begin to discern what they hear a Pastor preaching as biblical or not.
The greatest thing for a new convert is to get into private prayer and studying of the Word.
As a new convert, when I repented of drugs and violence, those that lead me to the Lord did not stay in contact with me. But my conversion was not their decision, it was my own personal decision, which I continued even without being in contact with them.
I grew up Catholic, and nobody had ever shared with me the errors of the Catholic Church. But as a new convert I started to simply read the four gospels excessively, and the Lord lead me to a body of true believers. But my theology did not come from a Church I attended, but from the Word.
So stressing the Word is top priority.

Here's another pointer...if there are no good Churches around to point them to and you are able, disciple them yourself! I have a page on my website that is dedicated to New Christians. You can probably find some good info there: www.pinpointevangelism.com/newchristians1.htm

Yes, the Apostle Paul remember had no churches to direct his converts, so he stayed with them for a year or more to disciple them, trainning one particularly to be a Pastor, so he would leave an area with a Church established, of all his converts.
