Wanted to let every one know that I called the police department and finally spoke with a (the?) supervisor. He straitly commanded them not to bother us, that there was no such law about a bench being state property and not public at dark etc. His previous voice message said, "I wanted to make sure that nobody gave you any trouble this past weekend". I almost hurdled my desk when I got off the phone! Praise God!
I spoke with him however after this past weekend. I had no guarantee about what could have happened. Nevertheless, we went down there. There were seven this time, and some came for the first time.
The very FIRST tract I handed out that night led to a man repenting there on the spot. All of us talked to him and he wanted to get right with God. I was ecstatic. I can't save anybody, but I can be a vessel. I almost wanted to go home since we were "batting 1000". But such foolish thinking I have sometimes.... there were many sinners yet that night who had not yet heard the "everlasting gospel".
The wind that night gusted at about 50mph, in just the right direction, blowing our words straight to the club. It was so intense.
After giving several messages, we decided to give out tracts to those standing in line/hanging out. Amazingly, we had a great response. Many people said, "Yall are doing the right thing" and "I know better than this". I asked if they knew it in their head or in their heart. A few guys indicated to me it was the former, and that they didn't have any good reason not to repent.
At the front door, someone in the group told me "There's the owner of the club!" i was blown away. Here was the man that I had praying to the Lord for, that the word of God would just fall like rain and soak him with conviction, standing right in front of me. I thought surely he would scream at me til a lung came out. Amazingly he spoke in a normal tone of voice, sayings things like:
This is the third weekend in a row I have had to hear soap box preaching.
You're making people feel bad. (How did he know we were there 3 weekends in a row, or that people were feeling bad?)
The message is too judgmental.
I believe in God.
I go to church.
(See what the modern gospel has done?)
and:
Why don't yall go to a gay bar or a this bar or a that bar. People here are just having a good time. This isn't anything wrong.
I said: "We're working on it"
Him: "Working on it means leave here and go there" etc.
He really dominated the conversation and we got to say little, but evidently he is worried about losing his "filthy lucre". I believe it was in Ephesus that the silversmiths got together and complained how Paul's preaching was killing their sales, all under the phony guise of "we're concerned about Diana's reputation". Still, just to listen to him was just incredible.
Also worth mentioning: the first club we go to was closed for the night at 10:00! Simply incredible! We have been praying that the owners would lose heart over their wicked businesses. I don't know if they are closed for good or what, but I was thrilled to see their doors shut at least one Saturday. And there are just two clubs on this block. Praise the Lord!
"The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. Who is like unto the LORD our God, who humbleth himself to behold the things in heaven and in the earth." Psalm 113
God has to humble himself to look at things in heaven, how much more to look at me!
I know that I am as frail as grass (Isa 40), a vapour (Jam 4) I just hope I can do at least a little for the Lord, for "the time is fulfilled, the kingdom of God is at hand." Mark 1:15
Keep going on.
