Sad Statue Performed by System of a Down Conquest to the lover and your love to the fire Permanence evolving in the absolute Forgiveness is the ultimate sacrifice Eloquence belongs to the conqueror
Two pictures of time and space are rearranged In this little piece of biblical tragedy Justified candy, brandy for the nerves Eloquence belongs to the conqueror
(CHORUS) You and me will all go down in history, with a sad Statue of Liberty, and a generation that didn't agree. (CHORUS)
I forgot to I forgot to let you know that Justified candy, brandy for the nerves Eloquence belongs to the conqueror
Conquest to the lover and your love to the fire Permanence evolving in the absolute Forgiveness is the ultimate sacrifice Eloquence belongs to the conqueror
(CHORUS) You and me will all go down in history, with a sad Statue of Liberty, and a generation that didn't agree. (CHORUS)
Generation
What is in us that turns a deaf ear to the cries of human suffering? Whoa! Suffering now!
(CHORUS) You and me will all go down in history, with a sad Statue of Liberty, and a generation that didn't agree. (CHORUS)
Generation... Belonging, belonging to...

Whadya guys think it means?

(CHORUS) You and me will all go down in history, with a sad Statue of Liberty, and a generation that didn't agree. (CHORUS) Generation... Belonging, belonging to... ______________________________________________________ Whadya guys think it means? I think it talks about alternate states of reality. The biblical tragedy part..I believe refers to (what the auther thinks as) Christians who misunderstand the bible... and are like nerds on brandy. The Conquest to the lover reference is very meloncoly. Its a kind of victory without true peace. Love isn't refined in the fire by conquest. Its found in self denial and thru peace in Christ. The generation that didn't agree refers to a generation who turns away from the God of their fathers. This song instills pride in the listener because it makes them think that conquering "truth" is eloquence. Then it makes a reference to human suffering and it appears to encourage the generation to fight against the absolute truth. A Christian would understand that human suffering will one day be dealt with by God. But peace will not be brought to this earth by men who conquer. In the end every tear will be wiped away from the believer.....its kind giving you all a script. However its cruel because it will turn you all away from the God who loves you and paid your sin debt on a tree.

Actually there's a reason why I posted this in the politics section....
Those who love their nation; america, and where that love has gone... a fire. It burns, useless.
The descisions our president makes today will never be reversible.
To forgive him for what he's done would be to sacrifice all. Don't give that up.
Glory to the conquerer. Not the fighter. Sweet talking goes to the president. Fighting goes to the soldier.
We get one picture of our status quo from our lying president. We'll never know what is real.
He's making the problem even bigger by comparing it to something that is already quite overly-bloated; the bible.
What we're fed to justify this war is as good as brandy; only useful to calm us down and inhibit us.
Again, glory isn't going to those who deserve it. It goes to the guy who takes a half fuckin years worth of vacation a year.
America will be sorry for this later on. Statue of Liberty is a synecdoche for America.
A frighteningly large number of the youth in America protest this war. A generation that doesn't agree.
Repetition, used to stress the point; engrave it in our heads.
Iraq is a mess. There are people getting killed going to work in the morning every day. It's a question, used to make you think; why is it that we don't listen to people when they scream?
It's like saying, holy nuts! They're suffering now, not later. Drawing your attention.
The chorus of course...
It ends open ended for you to decide who that generation is. Is it yours? Is it mine? They haven't excluded anyone.

My point: There was nothing here to do with religion. Until you forced it in there. You made it work. You decided that it had to do with religion, so you forced religion into it.
Sounds a tad bit like creationism....
creationism can be derived by the simple math equation, religion + science = creationism.
^^, the point is you saw what you decided you wanted to see. You made a conclusion without looking at the details and seeing that there are places where your conclusion didn't work, namely the Statue of Liberty part, which has been used as a symbol for America for quite some time now.
Please don't force your religion into places where it doesn't belong.
I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks this song means to them.

Personally I think it's trash.
Nothing there glorifying Yahweh in the least.
Just be a waste of time to try to examine it or understand it or see how "deep" it is.
Ephesians 5:15-17 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
You asked what others thought, so I gave mine.

Well, I didn't exactly want to hear what you thought about the song.
I wanted to hear what you thought it meant.
I'm very very glad that your 3rd grader reading and comprehension level has taken you this far in life.
Good luck with that.

I'm very very glad that your 3rd grader reading and comprehension level has taken you this far in life. Good luck with that. I was very heavily into heavy metal years ago. I've been to many many concerts and I've studies music. The song is deceptive. No one would ever really know what it means and songs have two meanings you know.

Ah, but SOAD is a very very politically extrovert band.
B.Y.O.B. is a clear protest of the war on Iraq.
THIS is from the same album, and the war protest interpretation is the only one that can work throughout every single verse.

By the way the post that you quoted, PACP, was directed at walter. Led Zeppelin » Stairway To Heaven There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven. When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for. Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven. There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings. In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings, Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven. Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it makes me wonder. There's a feeling I get when I look to the west, And my spirit is crying for leaving. In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees, And the voices of those who standing looking. Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it really makes me wonder. And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason. And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter. If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now, It's just a spring clean for the May queen. Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on. And it makes me wonder. Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know, The piper's calling you to join him, Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind. And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul. There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold. And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll. And she's buying a stairway to heaven.

Do you like that interpretation?
This song is clearly political; any doubt should have been shattered with the words "Sad Statue of Liberty"
As I have mentioned before, Statue of Liberty is a synecdoche for America.
The SoL has been, and will be, a symbol of America; nothing else.

Why? Because theydon't agree with your view of the world?
Sorry to say this, but no spirit wrote any song. Writers wrote those songs.
But I will give you the benefit of the doubt, please, prove to me that a spirit wrote those songs.
Anyways, the point of this thread was to a)Show you a good song b)Show you that it's YOU that forces religion into things c)Show you a political problem in America.

But I think it is the same spirit of rebellion and evil that is behind the secular music scene. What does the Bible say about music?

"Opiate", by Tool:
Choices always were a problem for you. What you need is someone strong to guide you. Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow, what you need is someone strong to use you... like me, like me.
If you want to get your soul to heaven, trust in me. Don't judge or question. You are broken now, but faith can heal you. Just do everything I tell you to do. Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow. Let me lay my holy hand upon you.
My God's will becomes me. When he speaks out, he speaks through me. He has needs like I do. We both want to rape you.
Jesus Christ, why don't you come save my life. Open my eyes and blind me with your light and your lies.

There's nothing spiritual here.
Once again, you christians are all talk and no show. You can't prove a thing, yet you assert everything.

ZOMG, TALKGIN , LuLZ!!!!!!!
I don't care about the people behind the music.
What is the music saying?
That's all we're talking about here. I don't care if SOAD smokes 6 kinds of crack every day, I'm talking about the words, and their meanings.

here is one of my favorite songs. this is actually spoken word, or poetry to the rhythm of music.
bloodletting, by saul williams
the greatest americans have not been born yet
they are waiting patiently for the past to die please give blood
those crumbled tablets were to share a story with a burning Bush
where is that voice from nowhere to remind us that the holy ground we walk on, purified by native blood has rooted trees whose fallen leaves now colour code a sacred list of demands?
who among us can give translation of autumn's hues to morning news?
the anchor man thrown overboard has simply rooted us in history's repeating cycle
a nation in its saturn years that won't acknowledge karma
where is that voice from nowhere, the ones your prophets spoke of?
there are voices from fear disconnected from their diaphragms dangling from coffee covered teeth that spill into our laps and scorch our privates
there are voices from the sides of necks some already noosed dangling participles pronouns running for sentence serving life in corner offices and ghetto corners their voices are the same: dead to themselves numb to the possibility of truth existing beyond that which can be palmed into your hand, period.
there are voices of elders which seem to do no more than damn us to our childish ways for in many households wisdom no longer comes with age
so where is that voice from nowhere? that burning bush? that passing dove?
for i hear generals calling for ammunition presidents calling for arms and women calling for help
where is that voice from nowhere? that god of abraham? can he be heard over the gunfire the wizz of passing missiles the crash of buildings the cries of children the crack of bones the shriek of sirens
or is that his mighty voice?
your angry god craving the sacrifice of generation's sons degenerate your holy books written in red ink on burning sands
your prayers between rounds do no more than fasten the fate of your children to the hammered truth of your trigger a truth that mushrooms it's darkened cloud over the rest of us so that we too bear witness to the short lived fate of a civilization that worships a male god
your weapons are phallic all of them
that dummie that sits on your lap is no longer a worthwhile spectacle his shrunken pale face leaves little room for imagination we have spotted your moving lips and have pinned the voice to it's proper source it is a source of madness a source of hunger for power a source of weakness a source of evil
we have exited your coliseum and are encircling your box office demanding our families back our cultures back our rituals back our gods back so that we may return them to their proper source the source of life the source of creation our mother's womb the great goddess
we will cut through the barbed wire hangers and chastity belts we will climb in and incubate our spirits through the winter we will wait through the degenerate course of your repeated history we will wait for the past to die

This is a more powerful song than yours.
Victory in Jesus Words and Music by E.M. Bartlett © 1939 - Administrated by Integrated Copyright Group, Inc. All rights reserved
1 Corinthians 15:57
"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I heard an old, old story, How a Savior came from glory, How He gave His life on Calvary To save a wretch like me; I heard about His groaning, Of His precious blood's atoning, Then I repented of my sins And won the victory.
Chorus O victory in Jesus, My Savior, forever. He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him, He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood.
I heard about His healing, Of His cleansing pow'r revealing. How He made the lame to walk again And caused the blind to see; And then I cried, "Dear Jesus, Come and heal my broken spirit," And somehow Jesus came and bro't To me the victory.
Chorus O victory in Jesus, My Savior, forever. He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him, He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood.
I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory. And I heard about the streets of gold Beyond the crystal sea; About the angels singing, And the old redemption story, And some sweet day I'll sing up there The song of victory.
Chorus O victory in Jesus, My Savior, forever. He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him, He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood.

This one is good to.
I Need Thee Every Hour Annie S. Hawks 1835 - 1918 Robert Lowry, 1826 - 1899
"I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." -John 15:5
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I need Thee ev'ry hour, Most gracious Lord; No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.
Chorus: I need Thee, O I need Thee, Ev'ry hour I need Thee! O bless me now, my Saviour - I come to Thee!
I need Thee ev'ry hour, Stay Thou near by; Temptations lose their pow'r when Thou art nigh.
Chorus: I need Thee, O I need Thee, Ev'ry hour I need Thee! O bless me now, my Saviour - I come to Thee!
I need Thee ev'ry hour, in joy or pain; Come quickly and abide or life is vain.
Chorus: I need Thee, O I need Thee, Ev'ry hour I need Thee! O bless me now, my Saviour - I come to Thee!
I need Thee ev'ry hour, Most Holy One; O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son!
Chorus: I need Thee, O I need Thee, Ev'ry hour I need Thee! O bless me now, my Saviour - I come to Thee!

And this one:
Jesus Paid It All Words by Elvina M. Hall Music by John T. Grape
Isaiah 1:18
"... though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hear the Savior say, "Thy strength indeed is small; Child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in Me thine all in all."
Refrain Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
Lord, now indeed I find Thy power and Thine alone, Can change the leper’s spots And melt the heart of stone.
Refrain Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
For nothing good have I, Whereby Thy grace to claim, I'll wash my garments white In the blood of Calv'ry's Lamb.
Refrain Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
And when before the throne, I stand in Him complete, "Jesus died my soul to save," My lips shall still repeat.
Refrain Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
